I gained by switching breads (I eat a lot of bread).  Went to something more natural/whole grain that had a lot more calories (but also more fiber, so I guess it would be bad during a flare).  Also, building muscle at the gym helped a lot.  Not only with weight gain, but with making me look a lot healthier.

Unfortunately the 'roids always make me gain weight after I get anorexically skinny after flaring...=( Wish I didn't have that problem.

hmmm..take prednisone-okay that is mostly a joke. Each of us has so many individual specific food intolerances that the only thing to say is eat more calories and do resistence training.

Yes it was a joke (kind of)...But unfortunately for me it's true. For some reason no matter how hard I exercise (3.5 hour bike rides when in remission) I still gain weight on prednisone. It's frustrating and annoying. eyes

I too am also trying to gain weight! I'm at 97lbs now.. sometimes at night it goes up to 101 - but back to 97 in the morning, le sigh.

I joined a gym and go twice a week - to test the waters - I've been thinking about finding a nutritionist - but I had one before and didn't like her or feel that she helped at all, as I didn't gain any weight and felt the same. For now, I'm trying to find foods that will help - like potatoes for one..

but I'm looking for help as well..

ensure is OK - too much sugar for me tho, makes me nauseous.. I can do half a bottle at a time and feel not as sick.. but I need to find something that doesn't make me feel crummy!

Is there anything you've tried monkey?

THe other thinhg I did was eat 4 to 6 sundaes a day ......possible as long as not intolerant to dairy and I ended up at the highest weight 117 lbs my doc was wanting to do flips lol..I did not for ME feel comfy at that weight though so I am holding steady at about 108 110 .......

LOTS of potatoes mashed ,baked anyways that would not bother me and bread that does not bother my guts loads of it ........

LOL - my grandma tells me that I should have milkshakes - lots of them!

Too bad ice cream has soo much sugar! But I should include at least one sundae a day ;) I think that sounds like a good idea, hehe!

heavly,

Try Peptamen. Make sure you get the vanilla flavored kind though. I couldn't handle Ensure or Boost but have been asbolutely golden with Peptamen. I think each can has 250 calories. It is very VERY nutritious! Don't go through a pharmacy to get it though, they will overcharge you. Just order it online. Hope this helps!

I too am having that issues since my Sxs. I found eating smaller more frequent meals and snacks has helped.

How about pediasure...it comes in banana! I haven't tried it yet or know the calorie count but I would imagine it doesn't have as much sugar since it's designed for kids. I am a boost drinker myself. When I was trying to put weight on I would have them in between meals which made me feel as I was overeating. I am holding steady now at 145.2 I would like to be around 135 but I guess the extra is good insurance for my next flare. My last flare I was down to 115lbs. I looked like I came out of a concentration camp since my facial features reflect a square jawline my eyes were lost in their sockets.
If you are working out you might try increasing your protein intake to increase muscle too.

Have you tried Boost with calories. My daughter has a terrible time putting on weight. 4 days after having a baby she weighed a whopping 100 pds. Her daughter was 7lbs14oz. Doctor told her he would put her in the hospital if she didn't gain because by the time she and babe had her first visit she had lost another 3 pounds.
I was making her boost (with extra calories)shakes. ...boost, add a banana, bit of yogurt or ice cream , ice and there you have it. It worked until she got tired of the shakes.
My daughter is being watched for CD but has not yet been diagnosed. I have had it for 30 odd years and used to have her underweight problem..... can't say the same anymore....I'm a fatty crohnie! Now I'm trying to lose weight and can't. It never ends.

I gained weight after a flare by drinking the supplement drinks you can get from your doctor - Fortisip and Enlive. Not to bad to drink, they do them in lots of different flavours now. It really helped to give me a boost, in energy also, there full of what you need.

Hope that helps.
