I really hate to ask this, but my poop is so greasy. Why is that? Any ideas are appreciated. Thanks.

Could be you are not absorbing fats, which are passing thtough you. This happens a lot in Crohns due to inflammation in the areas where fats are normally absorbed.

I'd watch it and see if it continues for a period of time. If it's inflammation related, it shouldbe less noticable over time. If it goeson for a couple fo weeks, might want to mention to your GI|.

I hope by "greasy" you don't mean like tar. Black and tarry is bad -- blood in the stool and time to go to the Dr. I hope that is not what you are experiencing!

Black and tarry = get to the doc as fast as you can.

Do you still have your gallbladder? sometimes after gallbladder removal , ppl's stool become quite 'fatty' and greasy. Do they float? Again, this means there is a lot of unabsorbed fat in the stool. Have you changed your diet lately? a diet high in fats will produce greasy stool.
Good luck....keep an eye on "things" and do mention this to your GI.

Good morning Julie,

I am very glad to hear it isn't black and tarry! From what I understand, black and tarry usually means tears or significant damage in a place in the intestine. The stool is full of blood - black - and the consistency is very greasy and sticky. Maybe the intestine has ripped from an obstruction or at a place weakened by cancer. Testing a stool sample shows if there is blood.

Maybe ask your Dr. if you should get a stool sample tested just to ease your mind as to what is going on.
