Hello!  My dr wants me to go on remicade because I have severe CD, I was diagnosed in 95 and have been in a flare up just about the entire time other then when I am pregnant.  I am constantly tired and have no energy for anything, but I force myself to keep on for my kids.  My question is does anybody know the actual chances for getting lymphoma from the drug?  I have a strong family history of lymphoma and am skiddish about starting it.  My doctor really doesnt talk to me much about the side effects or anything he just keeps urging me to do it.
Thank You for your help!

Hi sickmomof2, Welcome to Healing Well. I would get a second opionion from another doctor. Somebody whom will talk to you about Remicade and side-effects. I have been on Remicade for almost 5 years and have no-side effects from the Remicade.

Hi & welcome, I'm not too sure about the incident rate of lymphoma, from remicade, but I do know it's relatively small.

I would suggest you do like Teddy said, and ask your doctor. If your GI is not forthcoming, try your primary care doc.

Humira might be another alternative, just remember to ask.... Good luck.

I was on Remicade for four years, recently it quit working and I switched to Humira. Have you tried the drug website or calling the manufacturer. I know there's literature there that give you percentages. I think you have a reason for concern, I would just gather as much information as possible. Your doctor should know or a pharmacist?

Crohn'snme, the chances according to the literature I had when I was on it (3 years ago or so) was less then 2%. With the family history of it, I wouldn't be too quick to get on the bandwagon. I would definitely go with teddybear. Don't let any doctor anywhere push you around. It is YOUR body and YOUR health and YOUR decision. Don't make it unless you feel you have been completely informed.

I do not believe the God that has empowered us with sense, reason, and intellect has intended us to forgo their use. -- Bonus points if you can guess who said it.

Dx with CD in August of 1993. Resection in Jan of 96. Been on Pentasa, 6MP, Flagyl, azathioprine, Entocort, Furoxone, Hydrocotisone, Remicade, Prednisone, methylprednisolone, sulfasalazine, and probably others. Currently on Humaira.
