YES! You will be photosensitive and you will not get just a regular sunburn. It feels more like a chemical burn (not that I've ever had one of those), but it really stings and still hurts even after the redness is gone. My advice to you - put on TONS of sunblock - 50+ But have fun in the D.R.!!!

I confess to being a tanning person. The only Crohn's drug I've seen on their list (or noticed as making more sensitive) is Cipro. I've been on steroids for 7 out of the last 9 months and never had an issue tanning except with the Cipro. Here's a link with a list of sun-sensitive meds:

Just noticed MTX on the list...

--39 year old female, dx as UC in '04 (1st symptoms in '03), switched to Crohn's in '05, 1 fistula, crohn's colitis, limited to large intestine
--rejected (reaction/didn't work): Asacol, AZA, 6-MP, MTX, Remicade, Humira, prednisone
--stuck on methylprednisolone, tried Prochymal in Phase III study (can't wait til it's approved!)
--started Tysabri 3/21/08
--single mom to 10-year-old girl

While on prednisone, I always freckled terribly on my face and burned easier. But I did enjoy the Dominican with some strong sun screen. I like the blue lizard stuff--sold in CVS. The resort we went to had plenty of shaded areas and umbrellas. Stayed hydrated--the air is warm and the food may be salty. HAVE A GREAT TIME!!
