New member here. Your posts have been helpful to say the least. I had a
good colon test april 10 with some inflammation. Now the dr wants a small bowel xray. Ihave this the 21st. I remember having this years ago when the dr told me about it I was still groggy....knocked out. Any advice? Also my good intentioned friends keep saying it sounds like my gallbladder. Does anyone find this symptomatic with Crohns?
Should I mention this to the dr?

Thanks

it is no problem just taste like drinking chalk (and poprocks if you have that part too) and then they take a series of xrays

Thanks for your input. Is this a test where they tell the results right away and do I need some one to drive me? I live over an hour from my doctor.

no grogginess, you can go on your own. you probably won't hear anything right away, unless you happen to get a chatty tech. if you tend toward C, drink a dose of MOM when you get home.
48 y/o woman.  Diagnosed 4/06 after colonscopy, SBFT, CT-scan all showed crohns. 3 months later, after pred and remicade, all tests showed no crohns. December '06 had adhesions cut through a laparoscopy. Now taking Glycolax, Ultra Fiber Plus, Florastor, and DHEA. Have become gluten-free diet per naturopath's tests.

Hi Texasmom.

You drink this chaulky stuff that contains barium. It cleans you out! They take xrays and watch as the barium moves through your system. If they see something, they may mention it -- ask them and they might. I suggest you bring someone with you so they can drive home. I felt sick -- toxic actually -- for two days until the barium cleared my system. Not too bad, just a little bit nauseous and a low fever. Just plan to take it easy so a day or too. Maybe you will feel OK.

Let us know how it goes!

Thanks everyone. I will let you know how it goes. I hope they find something because right now I feel sick and I need a reason why I feel like garbage.

It is my experience, that you will get no results on the day of the test. They have to wait for a radiologist to read the xrays.

However, you should, in some cases find out the next, if they're on the ball.

The test itself is painless, but can be lengthy. If they allow you to walk after taking the barium, I would, it really helps the stuff
to move through. Best of luck

I was able to drive myself to and from this test.  It's gross, and the barium makes me queasy.  And it can cause some D when it passes through.  But you shouldn't feel groggy after.
