You know I have learned to live with a lot of things with this DD, but sometimes I still get my feelings hurt by people who just don't have any cuth.  No matter what the bathroom smells like you don't walk in and start complaining in a loud voice, or so something what just happened to me.  OOO, I think I will wait outside, from one employee to another who were talking.  They do not know I am in there, but it still hurts.

I am trying to teach my daughter to keep such comments to herself out in public, you do not know who is listening and whos feelings you might hurt just by mouthing off.  Of all the things we deal with, this one still gets me, because it is always adults who were not raised any better than to keep their mouth shut.

Thanks for listening, needed to vent as it just happened.

LeeAnn, when you leave the restroom tell the person with the big mouth that the restroom smelled fine until she walked in.
If we would read the secret history of our enemies,we would find in each mans life sorrow and suffering enough to disarm all hostility.

I know how you feel. We went out to eat at TGI Fridays one time..and well I ate and I was in the bathroom vomitting (I had a very narrowed stricture) anyhow..There were two girls out near the sink laughing and carrying on how I must be anorexic or something! Boy did I come out of that bathroom and let them have it. I was fed up! I said well you know what does my big (_|_) look anorexic! I have crohn's disease and before you open your mouth you should understand and know what is going on. They turned so red and walked out very quickly! My job was done. I went out sat down told my husband and he said was it you that said something to them they were talking about it on there way out. Yes that was me... I am so tired of peoples rude comments or thinking i'm a hypocondriac because they can't alway see my illness...well grrrrrrr to everyone that doesn't understand pick up a book and read some info. ty for listening to my vent! lol
Currently taking prednisone 40mg, Levoxyl 200mcg, Pentasa 500mg tablets 2 tabs 3 times daily, Ranitidine 300mg 1 tablet twice daily, Darvocet as needed for pain, GNC Women's UltraMega Bone Density vitamin, (Just started Remicade 1-31 given along side benadryl and something with a D)
Dr said with my ileum being so severe that the remicade will speed up me needing the surgery because of the scarring. :-(

I am so sorry that those ignorant women made you feel so bad. And I too agree with Sniper on this one. I am just sorry that someone did that to you. You can call them nothing but ignorant.

Thanks for bringing up this topic. The same thing happened to me .Now I have this big "hang up" about going to pooooo in a public bathroom. I usually wont do it. If I have to, I start flushing the toilet before the poooo even hits the water. This limits my  life. I try to make sure I have it all out of my system for a short time when I go to the store. Take Care.

My feelings get hurt quite a bit from the lack of understanding. Strangers are rude, but it also really hurts when friends don't understand! Like AmandaHO1 said, people who treat me like I am "fine" just because they can't see it! And, YEA! for telling those two girls to mind their own business. I hope they were ashamed of themselves!

Pom - don't let ugly strangers hold you back. When are you going to see them again? Who cares what they think about you!!! Next time you have to go just remind yourself that these people poop too, that it probably stinks when they do, and that you will most likely NEVER see them again after you flush and walk out. Hold your head high!

That happened to me once, someone walked in and said "wow, it smells" and I loudly shot back "it's a bathroom, what do you think goes on in here!?" It shut her up pretty good. The thing to remember is, everybody poops. So it's not like someone can really be all offended about a smelly bathroom- it's what happens!
Some people are rude, I just ignore it- they're not worth the effort.

I agree with what everybody else said - those women were incredibly rude and tactless!!

On a practical front, if this is going to be an ongoing issue for you, might it help to carry a little bottle of deodoriser with you so you can use it if you start to feel self-conscious about the smell? I know that a lot of the people on the ostomy forum do that, and they might be able to recommend brands for you.

I'm so sorry this has happened to you. It's challenging enough to get out of the house with this DD; I'll bet this doesn't help your self-confidence at all.

Fitz is right on this one. Strangers ARE strangers, their thoughts & talk are irrelevant to me. Of course, I'd just let a big one rip & clear out that restroom anyway.. yeah

That's my worst nightmare, sorry you had to experience that.

I found a great deodorizer, from the UC board, it's called Just A Drop, google it, I ordered it online. It's a tiny little bottle that you can easily fit in a pocket or purse, and you put a drop into the toilet bowl before you go. If that's not possible due to urgency, it still does a good job if you add a drop afterwards.
Dx Mild Proctitis 7/06 at age 33, Dx Severe Pan Colitis 5/07, Dx Crohn's Colitis 10/07
Failed Asacol, Lialda, 6-MP, Canasa, Rowasa, Entocort, and Remicade
On Humira since 1/08 with promising results, but can't get below 5mg Prednisone
Take Tylenol #3 as needed when not in close proximity to a bathroom.
Currently on 40mg Prednisone again since mid-March flare, ack
4/9/08 Humira dose increased to 40mg/week, Start slow Pred taper

Thanks everyone, I knew this was a place that would understand. I am pretty thick skinned and open about being sick, but there are days my stress level just cannot handle one more thing and I was there yesterday.

To everyone who suggested I say something, well it was at work and I am a support person, so not something I should do, but wish I could.

Hope everyone has a great day.

Generally I am alone in a bathroom when I poop.  I too need to relax and learn not to care about other people.

Speaking of air freshers - for us women:  CVS sells little perfume.  Luckily I like 'Escape' by Calvin Klein and it is strong and comes in a little spray bottle at CVS.  Its pretty cheap too.   I always have it in my purse.

Also dont forget matches AND flushing right away DOES help.

Pibbin, how much $$ did you pay for the just a drop? just wondering. I may get that.... I looked before and the one I found was kind of expensive since the bottle is so small.

So, this is a little off topic, but I checked out my 15 year old daughter's cell phone, and when I call, it shows up as "Doo Doo pants" instead of the traditional "Mom" I tried to have a sense of humor about it, but I must admit, it is a bit embarrassing!!!!

fitzy what if they are not ugly people? what if they are pretty people?

i think we guys have it differant... when we enter and get the "smell" somtime we wil joke and say , "man thats wicked"! what gave you that?!!" the we will get the "2 of those DA BOMB burritos from 7-11 and a six pack of beer!" or "my wife wont let me go at home"

Randy I'm sure you knew I meant ugly personalities not ugly physically lol... but the more I think about it, even with my crohns I have a tendancy to comment on the condition of a bathroom, but usually only if its empty. I think it is a natural reaction to say "pew" when something stinks. It doesn't mean that they think any less of you... My brother could smell up the whole house w/ some of his poops. I made fun of him all the time for it. Geez, I hope he isn't posting on a support group somewhere now because of me :) I swear it was all in good fun. And because he could gag a maggot. I had a lot of candles.
