I'm scheduled for surgery on Tuesday (resection of scar tissue in terminal ileum, appendectomy, ileocecalvalvectomy) and I'm running a low grade fever (100.1). My last humira injection was just over 3 weeks ago. I didn't think it was helping me, but it must have been helping somewhat, because I haven't had a fever since I've been on it. I've been up all night with the usual pain, plus the fever and pain in my hip. The humira must have been keeping this at bay. I don't feel like I'm coming down with an upper respiratory infection. I just feel CD crappy. I've arranged everything (personally and professionally) and am more than ready for surgery on Tuesday. I'll check with my doctor today, but does anyone know if my surgery will be canceled if I'm in the middle of a flare?
50 y/o F. CD dx'd Aug 05. Initially on Pentasa, then Imuran 125 mg. Started Humira (very reluctantly) on 10/24/07. Currently on Humira and Entocort.

Hi Ski Bum:

If your fever is crohn's related I don't think they will cancel your surgery because you are in a flare. Yes they prefer to operate when a patient is in remission, but lots of us have surgery as an emergency when we are in full flare. More likely it will impact on medication decisions after your surgery.

Good luck. This is a big step, but you will feel so much better once all that scar tissue is out of there.
