See... What happened was... Thursday, I had a doctor's appointment... I had run out of pain medicine... I was in a lot of pain.... I pleaded with the doctor not to press on my belly because it hurt a lot... he presses on my belly, anyway... I scream (didn't mean to, but man, that hurt)... He insists I go to the hospital...
So... Thursday, I'm in the hospital.... Sweet relief thanks to the IV pain medicine... Had a CT scan done... didn't show too much, though... Somethin' about moderate stool retention (not my fault, I am trying to go, darn it...)... But the doctor said it didn't look like there was any evidence of a stricture or anything like that... so, that's good...
Also had one of those ultrasound thingiemajigs done.... Apparently, I have a lot of ovarian cysts... *Could someone kind of explain those things to me? Because I'm not exactly sure what they are... and how come I have so many... and... would they be a cause for pain, too?*
Think my doctor might refer me to a female doctor (don't actually have one of my own...)...
Oh... and I'm going to get a colonoscopy done next Monday, so... maybe that'll shed a little more light on the subject of my intestines...
As I mentioned in a post before, though... Seems like the higher dose of prednisone is helping some...

Ovarian cysts can certainly cause pain. I haven't had them but someone will come along with lots of info. In the meantime I just wanted to let you know that I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers and I hope you feel better soon.

Hey Celey! I had just one ovarian cyst and had tons of pain with it. It could be why you screamed when your doc pressed on your belly. Are you on birth control? If not that is usually the first line of defense at getting those suckers to go away. You need to see a gyno asap and that is probably where he or she will begin. My cyst was 6 CM and was gone after 2 months of bc. But, some ladies on bc still get them so it is not always a cure all. Have you made it through finals yet? I'm thinking of you!
26 Year old married female law student.  Diagnosed w/ CD 3 years ago, IBS for over 10 years before that, which was probably the CD.  I am sort of lactose intollerant too but can handle anything cultured and do well w/ lactose pills and lactaid.  For crohns I am currently on Pentasa 4 pills/4x day and hysociamine prn.  I also have bad acid reflux and have been on PPI's since age 13.  I have been through prilosec, prevacid, and nexium.  Currently I am on Protonix in the morning and Zantac at night.  I alos take a birth control pill to allow some fun in my life.

Hi Celey,

I'm new to Crohn's so I can't give you much advice there. But the ovarian cysts are usually "egg breaking out cysts". Meaning, each month an egg ripens and must burst its way through the ovary and out. This is a normal monthly process. This type of cyst is called a "Corpus Leteum Cyst". Here is a link that explains it: This link also has info on when to seek medical help and stuff like that.

I hope some of the others can help you with your other questions.

Yeah... I'm not on any birth control... (because I'm not sexually active... and usually, my periods are pretty regular... though, I've noticed sometimes, they'll be a little not so regular every once in a while since I've had this disease)...

Thanks for the article, AlwaysRosie... :)... I'll read up on it...

Oh... and as for finals, I think they're coming up really soon... (like, this week probably...) *I'm sure I've missed some work and stuff while I was in the hospital, but I'm sure I can get that taken care of...* Thank goodness for the Disability Support Services...

Hi Celey, sorry to hear you had to go to the hospital, but like you said, sometimes it's the best place to be.

Some time ago I had cysts on my ovary, although they were painful, they told me that they would leave them
alone, as they were fluid filled, and would go down themselves. But I'm glad you're getting them checked out.
Good luck....

if you have lots of cysts, look into polycystic ovarian disease.
48 y/o woman.  Diagnosed 4/06 after colonscopy, SBFT, CT-scan all showed crohns. 3 months later, after pred and remicade, all tests showed no crohns. December '06 had adhesions cut through a laparoscopy. Now taking Glycolax, Ultra Fiber Plus, Florastor, and DHEA. Have become gluten-free diet per naturopath's tests.

I had a cyst and I ended up in the hospital in emergency surgery, I also was having some other problems so I had a histarectomy at the same time. But I handle pain very well and that I couldn't they were giving me shots of demoral before I went in to surgery. Don't wait thats what I did........

Well... I'll definitely look into scheduling an appointment with a female doctor, so that I can get all of that checked out...

I definitely don't want anything really bad happening to me...
