Hi Everyone,
I'm new to the boards and just had a few questions regarding Entocort. I have been on Entocort since feb. 14 this year,
and reduced my dose down to 6mg/day three weeks ago. I was curious if any of you who have been treated with this
medication have experienced mood swings... specifically irritabilty and anger. I know this isn't supposed to be a med
that has these side effects, but I have only noticed these traits in me since I began my treatment. It is having a bad
effect on my job, as I am very testy, and extremely stressed out. Have any of you noticed awful side effects from this med?
I do have to say that I am very grateful that it has stopped the original symptoms. My primary care doc has put me on
Buspar to help combat some of these symptoms, but I have only been taking it for a week, and it takes a couple weeks
to see its full effect.

Anything anyone may have to add would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Steroids are well known to cause people to suffer thru some pretty bad mood swings. And Entocort while it has many less side effects than Prednisone, still is a steroid. I think within in time the Buspar will help with the mood swings and it also sounds like you are in the tapering stage with the Entocort, so hopefully things will start to improve for you soon.

Welcome to Healingwell, and we look forward to hearing more from you.

God Bless,

I'm taking entocort, it's much more gentle than prednisone. But sometimes the results are not so great...

I have been on entocort since Jan. and my mood has changed, I get upset and angry much faster and over little things, and when I say angry I don't know if this makes sense but its a very nasty kind of anger. I was always one to control myself really well so this is so very new in my house. I'm not sure if its the medicine or the start of menopause or stress, maybe all of it. I do know I will bring it up to the doctor at my visit next week. I must say it does make people scatter.......

Hi, I was on Entocort for 4 weeks before switching to Pred. I found it kept me up into the wee hours of the morning even tho I was exhausted. It also gave me anxiety.. and I had the shakes too. I could cry at any given minute.... would've made a good actress !! Good luck with it...

Thank you all for your responses.

Way2tired - that's the exact kind of anger I'm talking about and I'm afraid it's going to get me fired. I try not to let it out at work - but a lot of times the anger has escaped my mouth before I can think about it.

Pooie1981 - I had the same sleeplessness at first, thankfully it passed. Now, since I started tapering, I find myself sleeping much more, falling asleep at 6PM sometimes. The anxiety is awful, always feeling short of breath, like there's something trapped in my chest.

I haven't mentioned this to the GI because I am afraid he will try me on the Pred - and from the sounds of it, I definitely would not be able to handle that. I only have a week left at 6mg, then down to 3mg/day for a month. He wants me to go on Asacol for maintainence after that.

Thank you all for being here, and answering my questions so promptly. You are all a wealth of information, and sincerely appreciated.

Glad we could give you peace of mind. :O) Have you been on Asacol before? I was on Asacol from the time I was diagnosed until this year and I was pretty successful with it. No major side effects and it kept me in remission until recently.

Good Luck with everything.

Sorry you have to go through this....what I try to do and its not easy is when I get that angry take a deep breath and try for that moment to distract myself with something else and then try to go back to it,like they say try counting to ten. It works sometimes other times my brain is telling me I'm going over board but my mouth won't stop. I honestly hope it gets better for you.......

I've been on Entocort for almost as long as you (Feb 28th - down to 6mg in April) and I'm experiencing the anger side effect too. My pharmacist gave me a few pages of information and mood changes (specifically anger) were listed as possible side effects.
I find it's not so bad now that I'm on a lesser dose.
Current:
Dx: Crohn’s Ileitis as of 22/02/08
Rx: Salofalk 4g/day (26/02/08)

Discontinued meds:
Asacol 2.4g
Pentasa 4g
