What does the mucus that comes out of the bum look like?  My doctor asked about it but I have never noticed it before.  How do you know if it is mixed up in your stool?

TMI to follow:  Today, when I went #1, I passed gas and when I looked in the toilet there was a white filmmy looking thing.  Was that it?

When you have mucus is it noticeable?  How can you tell? eyes

Yeah, that's mucous! It's kind of like when you have the flu and you hack up all that crap - it's essentially the same thing coming out of your bum. Your gut produces massive amounts of this mucous to help move a food bolus along, and it's entirely normal to have some mucous. But sometimes an excessive amount of mucous means that your gut may be reacting to an area of inflammation, or reacting to increased peristalsis (contractions), etc. But yes, I can pretty much guarantee that what you saw was run-of-the-mill mucous!

P.S. I just realized I have never used the word "mucous" more times in one sentence than I just did for that reply, LOL

I second the white/clear/brownish notion and add that when I have an infection it's more like a bright green- yum!
