Hi fellow Crohnies! I'm new to this forum. Although I've been reading it for a while I just joined it today. This is the most helpful place I've been. I've been dx's since 2004 and have had 1 resection. I'm currently having trouble and was wondering if any of you suffer from pain in the lower back? I have arthritis and I've just recently learned that fibromyalgia goes along with crohn's as well and was wondering if the pain in my back could be that. Also, I've not worked in over a year. Have been trying for disability since Feb. 07 and have been waiting for a hearing date to go before the administrative law judge since July 07. I'm 42 and haven't really been able to hold a job for about 10 years. Just little jobs here and there. Do any of you get disability and should I just be patient? I'm
about at my wits end here. Times are very hard with just my husband income. Anyway, I'll stop here and save more questions for later. Thanks in advance and thanks for sharing all your personal info with this site!!!!

Welcome to Healing Well, flustered! I'm glad that you decided to join. I hope that you find this site as helpful as I did when I first joined.

What type of arthritis do you have? There are several types of arthritis that effect the back. The most common is osteoarthritis or "wear and tear" arthritis that comes as we age. Some people with Crohn's get different types of arthritis that effect their backs. Spondyloarthropathy and ankylosing spondylitis both are more common among people with CD than in the general population.

I have had significant problems in my lower back due to the spondyloarthropathy associated with CD. I have great difficulty sitting for more than 10-15 minutes at a stretch. The best thing I did was get into see a rheumatologist to get my back and joint pains evaluated. Would this be an option for you?

We have several members that receive either Social Security Disability Income, Supplemental Security Income, or disability through their employer. I know that some had several rejections from Social Security before finally getting approved. I do know that some states move more quickly than others getting people into hearings. Hopefully one of our members with more experience in this will stop by and relate their experiences.

I'm not sure as to exactly what kind of arthritis I have but my GI assures me that I have it and he has me on Celebrex for it. He did make me an appointment with the rheumatologist but I had to cancel it becuse of lack of money for the co-pay and the test. I really do need to go to him and find out for sure. Also, I have migraines that they can't determine the cause of. A year ago Dec. I had a mini stroke but the nuerologist said that there was no significant damage that should be causing the migrains. I thought maybe this too was a symptom of fibromyalgia. But like others, everything that I find wrong with me I try to relate it to the Crohn's.Thank you for you info and for welcoming me to the forum.

Hey flustered welcome to Healingwell. I think Ides answered your question pretty well, but one point I would like to make. My daughter has Fibromyalgia and also suffers with bad migraines, so maybe those two are related??? Be careful with the Celebrex it might be a little hard on your tummy. I too also recommend a Rheumy, I too have one, and she has been helping me with my knee pain, back pain, etc (I am sure you get the picture) Hope you can get in to see one soon. And we look forward to hearing more from you soon.

Welcome to the forum Flustered.

I didn't have time to read the others' responses to you. But having been on these boards for 3 years . . . I've seen these disability claims take from a few months to several YEARS. It seems to depend on what State you live in. Sorry I don't have better news. If you go to the top of the page and type in SSI or SSD (or whatever you applied for), you'll find posts from other members about their experience. If you want to narrow it down, type in "Crohn's SSI" (or SSD or Social Security).

Blessings!

Thanks for all the info and just for being here! You have all been alot of help already. It's jusy a blessing to know that there are others who truely understand what I'm going through. yeah   Even my family has no way of really knowing how I feel and what I go through on a daily bases. I can be fine one minute and down for the count the next. This is the strangest disease. And it affects so many different areas.

But again, thanks to all of you who have replied.

Welcome to HealingWell! Sorry you need to be here..
I actually have two kinds of arthritis. The one from my Crohn's of course & also Osteoarthritis. And that one is in my back.
Yours sounds like it might be like mine.
