I'm due for my Remicade treatment Friday, and have Shingles. (as most of you know, lol!)  My GI said it's fine to receive the Remicade since I don't have an infection, but a virus.  Also because I'm taking an anti-viral (Valtrex.)  While I do respect my GI and his opinion, I'm a little hesitant.  Has anyone received Remicade while ill with "something else?"  Thanks so much in advance.  Julie

Hi Julie,

I to had shingles while on remicade. My GI said not to have another infusion until the shingles were gone. I took Famvar for the shingles and resumed my remicade after the shingles were gone. I hope other patients post for you also, but that is what I was instructed to do. In my opinion, putting off the remicade for an extra week will also save you the what if worry also. I hope the shingles clear soon, and you are feeling better.

Julia

then ask another GI for a second opinion which I strongly encourage....

especially since your shingles are in a early stage I do think (as long as you keep taking your valex) remicade should be fine...
