So I committed to posting updates on my progress with 6-mp. The reason is I know that the support and information we get from this board sometimes is superior to that we get from our gastro drs. Second If the drug worked well for me I wanted to let others who are considering taking the drug know about my experience. I did not have anyone give me any indepth feed back and so I pretty much decided to try it on my own and roll the dice.

Its been six months and I can say that for the last month I have been symptom free. I have the occasional night out at the bar and Im not affected at all. My stools are solid and remind me of when I was 10 years old! LOL I feel very good very very very good..And I havent felt this good in a long time as far as crohns goes. I still have issues with Spicy foods, but that is an issue that people without crohns have. And it doesnt make give me pain just discomfort and my stool gets all weird and there seems to be more mucus present when I eat spicy food. So point in case "NO BUFFALO WINGS" LOL.

Now for the cons...I experience about every 3 weeks a day of serious fatigue...It only last a day but its pretty bad. I cant get it together fo nothing and all I can do is sleep...The things about it is when I spend the day sleeping I fell 200% better the next day. So maybe the sleep replenishes something I dont know. I do take vitamins and a B-12 suplement to help with the energy. I get an occasional headache which I have always suffered from, so that could be the asacol or the 6-mp but 3 to 4 tylenol usually do the trick.
Last but not least is nausia...I experience a slight nausia every few days. Its not bad by any stretch just a little annoying. I am going to ask my dr for something when I go for my follow up on the 20th of this month. I never vomit or feel like Im going to pass out but its just a weird helium head feeling that is awkward and I dont really like it. Again its not every day and when I get it I just skip a dose of 6-mp for 1 or 2 nights and it goes away.

My take on the cons or side affects is that they sure in the hell beat going to the toilet 20 times a day! They sure in hell beat the the cramps that double me over and make me want to rip out my colon! They beat the weight loss, the depression and all the other sick disgusting things Crohns causes. Like my Doctor told me the benefit of 6-mp just outweighs the negatives.

I hope my little novel helps someone out there. Take care of yourselves.

Hi Doc, glad to know you're doing so well on 6mp. However, keep an eye on the nausea..

6mp, however, is one of those drugs that can play havoc with your pancreas, and nausea maybe an indication of the start
of pancreatic inflammation.....

I would discuss this with your gastro doc if it continues to worsen. But good for you so far.....

hey doc - it's my 6 month as well. i started at 25mgs, then to 50, 75 and we recently increased me again so i am at 100mgs. (i weigh 106 lbs) i just had my tng checked again and i am still on the low side, hence the increase. i am glad to hear it's worked wonders for you. overall i feel better. i'm okay but would really like to feel good, hell great would be nice! if this increase doesn't help in the next few months i will be going the humira/remicade route or i will be seeing a surgeon. my stricture might be past the point of medication. i get fatigued if i have been running around all day. still having urgent d up to 10 times a day, i would say 4-6 times on an average day. still having upper abdominal pain and a strange poking feeling in my lower right side. it's uncomfortable but tolerable i guess. just, nagging.

anyways, that's my 6 month story :/

Good to hear you're doing better.  When did you start to first notice the benefits?  I've been on Imuran for almost 4 months now and have noticed zero progress.  mad

Thanks for the note about the nausia dunny2...I really didnt give it much thought because my blood test are always coming back okay but I wil deffinitley mention it to my doctor.

Hey Reef, I started noticing results at the 3.5 4 month mark. My pain was the first to go and my stools just became solid and larer vs. loose and narrow. Also I started out at 150 mgs I was 140lbs at the times...After the first 2 months of blood test my doctor saw that I could tolerate a large dose then he lowered me to 100 mg a day. Im still at that. I would like to go to 75 or 100 every other day.

I think most of my side affects come from the little doubts or fears in the back of my head of the possible bad things that can happen on the drug...But when I dont think about those things Its really good days...There is deffinitley a body and mind connection.

I also just wanted to let everyone know that you can ask me any questions you would like and I am available to offer feedback.
