I am 2 1/2 weeks post surgery.  Just had the staples removed today.   I've been experiencing excrutiating crampy spasms, sometimes before having D, and sometimes just randomly.  They truly stop me in my tracks.  I've tried bentyl and didn't find any relief.  Does anyway who has had a resection and gallbladder removal (I had both together), or has any experience with this kind of pain have any suggestions on how to get some relief.  I am open to both a med or something homeopathic.

I thought of trying a heating pad.  I had asked a doctor about it at the hospital and he advised against it.  I'm wondering, now that the staples are removed, maybe I could try applying heat.  Forgot to ask my surgeon.

Also, although I've had the big D for many years, I am just now finding that the D is literally giving me a pain in the butt. I'm really sore.  Suggestions for relief would be greatly appreciated.

Hope everyone's having a peaceful day.

Potty pooper - I went thru the sore bum last week from all the D post-resection and it was the worst pain I've ever experienced. I was ready to go back to the hospital to get an IV, so I wouldn't have to eat. A combination of medication and interventions to lessen the number of stools (imodium 1/2 hour before meals, Fibercon, small frequent meals, fluids in between meals only); limiting my diet to small amounts of rice, toast, peanut butter, banana, cheddar cheese, baked potato, yoghurt) and then applying topical ointment after every BM really helped. Topically, I used A&D ointment for a few days. Now I'm using Aquaphor, which is my favorite goop. I also took several sitz baths/day. At night I use some sort of anal hydrocortison cream. I'm still sore, but it's manageable.

As far as the pain you describe, I get that occasionally, but it's shortly before a BM and that takes care of the pain.

I hope you feel better soon.

I think you should call your surgeon or doctor on call. Explain your pain and discomfort. I bet there's a cream they can prescribe for your bottom. No fun. I too like aquaphor but haven't used it in that area before. You have been through alot and shouldn't think twice about asking for help. Please call and let me know what they say and how you are doing. HUGS
