Hi, everyone.  I need to vent.  The shingles are horrible, but I'm taking my medicines faithfully.  I have been in the process of increasing Imuran to a therapeutic level.  I was on 75mg and getting ready to go to 100mg.  Well, I saw my GI yesterday.  Because I'm so immunocompromised with the meds and developed Shingles, he decreased the Imuran from 75mg to 50mg.  He said we probably won't ever be able to increase it, because I would be putting myself at great risk for developing Shingles again, each time with an increase in severity.  I'm so discouraged and dissapointed.  This Shingles thing has really thrown me off.  I feel very depressed today. They say the best thing for Shingles is to relax and not stress...... eyes    Thanks for listening.  Julie sad

Vent away Julie! Shingles are horrible!! I'm hoping you get relief soon! There are a couple of meds for singles, so if it isn't improving, please contact your Doc.

Take care and relax!!! It will get better!!

Hi Julie Hope there is some improvement in your condition soon .I was reading up about them and hope your's aren't too bad. Yes it must be a let down to hear that about your Imuran. Hope you don't stress out too much. It does help sometimes to talk to others I don't have any great advice but was wondering if things are getting better. How long does it take for them to clear up? lol gail

Gail, you asked how long it takes to clear up.... Not soon enough, lol!! I'm day 6 and no improvements yet. I guess it can last a couple of weeks. I'm trying to stay as positive as possible...... Julie

Julie, if you are still on prednisone as well as the Imuran - blame the pred for the shingles.

I was on Imuran for 9 months w/no problems, it was only when we added Entocort that I broke w/shingles. I've been on Imuran since, both a somewhat higher dose and at the same dose as when I got hit w/the shingles, according to weight fluctuations. It was like it was the Entocort that "broke the camel's back".

Given my druthers I'd rather be at an adequate dose of Imuran than being doing the pred or Entocort bit.
