I saw a doctor on Tuesday and mentioned my continued bleeding since having the SBFT. He decided to put me on Entocort enemas. He wasn't sure where the bleeding was coming from (and said that due to the rapid passage of the barium, the blood could conceivably be coming from the terminal illeum). The doctor elected not to do another anoscopy because the little plastic thing that was in the exam room wasn't one that he was used to using (and I wasn't entirely up for it since the last one hurt like crazy).

Anyway, I think the bleeding has gotten worse, not better since Tuesday. Before Tuesday the bleeding was happening only during one BM a day (the first) and sometimes would skip a day. Now, I can't use the washroom without there being blood in the bowl and on the TP - I don't even need to have a BM!
Should I still give it a few more days (I used my third enema last night) or should I go up to the hospital again?

*sigh*

I've never used Entocort enemas, only the hydrocort enemas. They seem to help me within a few days. But, almost all of my inflammation/bleeding is in the lower rectal region. I don't think that the enemas help beyond the left side. Have you called your doctor?

The doctor I saw on Tuesday figured if I had a fissure or a hemorrhoid then the enemas will work but he didn't say anything about if my bleeding was coming from somewhere else. Because he didn't take a look he couldn't confirm the site of bleeding.

I haven't called a doctor yet because the GI doctor that I see is from out of town - I've also only seen him once. I don't have a regular family doctor in town because the last few I started to go to regularly ended up moving.

It can take time (weeks, months) before the enemas kick in, it all depends on how bad the inflammation is too and of course some rectal meds work better for some people compared to others...for me I find cortifoam has always worked the best but even with that I've had to continually use if for a yr before tappering off of it so it just depends.

A few days is nothing really, you'll have to give it much more time than that likely...don't stop using it, rather ask your doc for cortifoam or another type of stronger rectal med.

I only got a prescription for 7 days... I'll use it up and then I'm out of town for two weeks...
My mum thinks I should go in on Monday if I'm still bleeding but I'm afraid it might mess up the appointments I have at the end of the week (ie: if they want to send me back down to YK to scope me).

bleh...

Only 7 days? That's odd, you should call your doc and see if he can phone in a refill on it for you...I don't get why on earth he'd only give you a 7 day RX.

I don't know either, I'm new at this :-)

I got the last box from the pharmacy so they'd have to order it in and that would be a week or more.

Man this whole thing is a hassle!!
