Has anyone had their gall bladder removed as a last resort.  i am sced. to have mine removed in June 11th and they will also do a  lapareroscopy of my intestines while they are in there.  I am hoping that this will ease some of the pain.  Living on pain meds(that really don't work to well) is not going so well.  I've had the Hida scan, ultrasound and other tests to see if there were stones but there aren't.  I ma partuicularly interested in knowing if the surgery helped others.
Happy mother's day to all the mom's! :-)

I just had mine out almost a year ago. I am so glad I did. I would have an attack for no reason...it didnt relate to what I ate. My hida scan showed no stones but that it was functioning at 2% it was time to get it out.

Just had mine out, along with a bowel resection, three weeks ago. I had stones. Too soon to tell if it will make a difference in the way I feel. Having lots of pain right now.

I had an attack and had mine removed - bunches of stones. It wasn't bad - mine was laproscopic.

I had mine taken out 8 years ago because they didn't know what was wrong with me at that point and that was their best guess.  My gallbladder wasn't working at full capacity, so they decided to give that a try.  It maybe helped with some of the pain but I was later diagnosed with both endometriosis and Crohn's.  I really don't notice not having it.

My gall bladder function was down to 30% and eating even 1/2 gram (0.5 grams) of fat would make me writhe in pain for about 2 hours.  Having my gall bladder removed did help, now only if I eat something really really fatty (like non-low-fat ice cream) my side hurts for maybe 30-45 minutes from trying to dump bile since my gall bladder isn't there.  No idea what was wrong with my gall bladder to make it lose 70% of its functionality, no stones or anything, but I feel much better now that it isn't there to hurt all the time.

The recovery isn't fun, having little cuts in your abdominal muscles makes you realize that practically everything in moving and breathing uses those muscles, but it sure beats having really bad pain every day that you can't get rid of.

I had mine removed in 1991 just before they did laporscopically. So I was cut open. When mine was taken out I didn't have any gallstones. I had ever test done (except blood work) that showed it diseased. It wasn't until they took it out that they realized that it was diseased. I have felt better that way from then. No for my CD well that is another story.

I had mine out in 2001. It was so swollen and painful, I couldn't have made a better decision there. I do have bile salt diarrhea issues from having it out though. But questran takes care of that for the most part.

Mine was taken out 6 wks before my resection and appendix surgery. I had mine done lap and that is the way to go. Second postop day I was at the horse races w/my sister who came to visit. I was back at work in 4 wks and did fine except the D continued. I had it before the GB problem came up. By havng it out, it took care of the high up pain under the front of my bra area, no more pain radiating around from the front to the back. Mine was inflammed not working. Susie
