Question about my son's CD condition for those with experience.

My son was Dx with CD Sept07 where he had bleeding and diarreha 4-5x/day. Went on pred 50 mg tapering for 3 months. Diarreha disappeared but bloody stool did not go away until Feb08 (coincidentally, started SCD just days before bleeding stopped). He's never had any pain and still doesn't but bleeding started again in April08 and has been going on since then with every BM (bleeding is about 3-4 tablespoons per time, as he decsribes it, with the odd time being less). The bleeding started shortly after taking a weeks worth of antibiotics for preventing infection from wisdom teeth removal. He has been on Imuran 50mg Feb-April and now started 100mg.

The question I have is really about the persitent blood in the stool. It has been going on for about 1 and 1/2 months now and I'm concerned if that is a long time or is something that others have seen and it tapers away to stopping in time. He just got back from his GI who wasn't concerned about the amount and said that the bloodwork done was all good (normal white blood cell count and also another marker which gives an indication of inflammation was also normal). He is outwardly quite healthy and active in sports and anything else so its hard sometimes to remember that he has this bleeding going on in the background and that there should be some level of concern.

Any other experiences out there, knowing that everyone reacts differently? Thanks.

Well, I will answer the bleeding question with my experience with it. I had bleeding for about 15 years, every day with every bowel movement. It was so much that you could not even see anything in the bowl because it was all red. They say that the blood loss looks far worse than it really is. All I know is that it was always there for me. It was always my number one complaint followed by pain and then diarrhea. With Prednisone, it would lessen a bit, but not very significantly. I used to get regular blood tests and oddly enough, I was never too anemic. Sometimes I was actually in the normal range. I've been on Humira now for two years and I no longer bleed.
