Hello there, Crohnies.  I find myself here betraying my UC forum because I wanted to ask if anyone here is taking Humira in combination with 6mp and how it's working and what side effects you experience.  I have taken Humira for 2 months and unfortunatley, I am still struggling with flares/bleeding so my GI said I should start taking 6mp as well.  I also have been having pelvic/bladder pain lately, GI wants me to check my urine for bacteria from stool, he said it's possible that my ulcer has fistulated into my bladder... oh joy.  My concerns with adding the 6mp is the higher risk for cancer.  Also, I get welts after the Humira injection and was wondering if the 6mp may help lessen that reaction or if they could worsen it?!!?  eyes

Princesscolon - I have been taking 75 mg of Imuran (which I believe is the same as 6MP) for about 2 years and Humira just over a year and have had no real side effects. I do get a welt at the Humira injection site but nothing else. The combination has worked well for me. I haven't exeperienced any more infections than normal ( had bronchitis this winter but so did everyone in my area) and my bloodwork has been normal. It is important to keep up with the bloodwork. I also take Pentasa. MB

Thanks, MB. I am glad to hear it's working for you and I will be sure to get my blood checked. How often do you get it checked?

princesscolon, I'm not currently on Humira but, after seeing my GI Tuesday, he has decided not to keep me on Cimzia, now that it is approved and my clinical trial will be ending (just found that out on Monday), but to try Humira instead.  I am currently on 6mp as well.  My doctor did a Prometheus test on Tuesday to check my levels of 6mp.  He said that they used to say it was okay to take 6mp and a biological together but that some studies came out last year that said you shouldn't be on both.  He said some things now say it's okay and some don't, so he's checking my levels to see if they are even at the therapeutic level.  If not, he is taking me off of the 6mp and keeping me on the biological.  If my levels are therapeutic, we'll decide if it's worth the possible risk or not.  This doesn't really answer your question, but just thought I'd share what he told me this week.
