What exactly is the Gurgling in my belly? I have named the noise Leroy as in Bad, Bad Leroy Brown. I swear sometimes it's like an alien like in the movie Spaceballs and it going to burst out of my stomach with a top hat & cane and start singing "Hello My Baby, Hello My Darling".

At night it's hard to lay on my side b/c the gurgling moves and hurts my insides. I can push on it and make the Gurgling move from side to side. Pretty weird, huh?

I'm not sure what that is! I tend to have a lot of noises in my tummy, too. I just figure it is my colon having spasms. Have you been diagnosed with Crohn's?

I swear I posted a reply but it's gone. I'll have to type it again....

Yes I have Crohn's. I was diagnosed after an 8 day stay in the hospital in May 07. I have also been diagnosed with a hiatel hernia & colitis.

I currently do not take any medication but I should be taking Pentasa 4x/day. I have not been taking my meds b/c even when I did, I didn't feel better and it's getting too expensive to refill the Rx.

I am going to see my GI doc in June so I should start taking my meds again soon or my doc will yell at me saying how do I expect him to help me when I won't even help myself.

I am currently having a flare-up and in pain half of of the day. Smoking does not help but the pain stresses me out so I want to smoke. Ugh!

Don't smoke! Smoking is bad!!

Anyway... I get a lot of gurgling noises for my tummy, too... It's so loud... Went to the doctor today... He heard it himself...
I think I am being picked on by life, sometimes. But's that okay. Life and I are good buddies... I know life doesn't mean no harm. It just is the way it is. I can accept that.

Well... He was a primary doctor... he seemed to think it was normal for someone who has Crohn's disease (particularly when it's active)... *So have the nurses that have heard it when I was in the hospital, too...*

I've read on the internet that a lot of gurgling could be a sign of blockage or somethin'... But I've had a colonoscopy done recently, and there was no sign of anything like that for me... so... I'm guessing the gurgling is another flare-up symptom....

Hmm... I almost missed that part...

You haven't been taking your medications? Seriously... How DO you expect the doctor to help you if you won't even help yourself? The least you can do is take your medicines... see if it makes you feel better... and if it doesn't... you can be helped further from there... :(... Really, how can you stand allowing yourself to get into so much pain and everything? Please, for goodness sakes, take your medicine...

Besides that... Those medicines probably help slow down the progression of the disease... People with Crohn's can live longer because of them... You don't want to get really bad, do you? Please take your medicine...

And please, look into quitting smoking... Smoking makes Crohn's worse... and in general, it's bad for your health. I know it's hard, but it's really in your best interest....

I have very loud gurgling, especially before I have a bowel movement...I have heard it can be related to a stricture, but it also could be gas, or colon spasms...it's when everything goes silent that you really have to worry. As far as the medications, if you do not have prescription coverage and you live in the US, you can look up the drug company and if you are eligible, you can get free or discounted medication. You don't have to be super low income either. For example, with Pentasa, as long as you make under $60,000 for a family of four you can get discounted meds. See which medications that your doctor wants you on, and then go to the website of the drug company that produces it. You should also discuss this with your doctor, as s/he may help you choose something more low cost. The dreaded prednisone is very inexpensive, but then again, I don't know if that's the best criteria to choose your treatment plan. Taking no meds and smoking on top of it is just setting yourself up for problems! Good luck

Hi Mowlowdee,

Sorry your post disappeared. The forum upgraded at about 4 this afternoon and 30 minutes of posting was lost.

If you click the link at the end of my signature "Lupus Resources" . . . you will find, in one of the posts in that topic, a couple of links for help with your meds. Hopefully one of them will be a good resource for you.

Blessings!

Just had a GI appt. today, and for the past several weeks my gurgling has been so loud people across the room can hear it! He listened with the stethoscope and said it's indicative of a lot of gas, (obviously), and that the gas is partially from the inflammation that's started back up in my ileum. Apparently, the colon is having to work harder to pass the waste through the intestines because of the scar tissue and inflammation. That's why I'm having ridiculous gurgling lately. Hope this helps!
Pentasa- 1000mg/2x 1/08; Percocet/Ultram for pain; Prilosec 40mg; Xanax-ANXIETY; Cymbalta 60mg
Probiotic
Ferrous Sulfate 325mg/daily for anemia
Azathioprine 150mg
Currently on a Low-residue diet as of 11/26

I'm so tired, when will this get better?

Jenny, that is the answer I was looking for. :) Mucho Thanks!

I have health insurance so my meds are covered but still expensive for me.

Celey - thanks for the encouragement. I get paid this Friday and will refill my Rx. I do not want to get worse but I will talk to my doc about something for lower cost. I was on prendisone for a couple of days and all I wanted to do was eat, so i did. I went back to the doc and told him to take me off of it b/c I did not want to gain 50lbs!! That's when he out me on Pentasa. I am expecting some kind of miracle drug although I know there is no such thing.

If the Pnetasa will slow down the progressiopn of the CD, then I'm all for it. I am 31 and do not want to wear a bag. My 2nd cousin has CD but was Dx over 30 years ago at the age of 30. She now wears and bag and has done so for a long time. I do not want that to be me.

Alot of interesting info!

I just wanted to say that I used to smoke and I would highly reccommend quitting ASAP!  As you mentioned earlier, I started to realize that often times as I was finishing a cigarette, I would have the urge and have to run to the bathroom.  This is proof to me that smoking is very bad for Crohn's.  Then when I was diagnosed my doctor told me I had to quit or I would be undoing all the work he was doing with the meds.

Also, I would be honest with your doctor about your meds.  If you don't like them, can't afford them, etc, and are not going to follow the prescription you might as well tell him so he can find something to help you.  BTW, I have gathered that although Prednisone really sucks, it does a good job at establishing remission!  Then you can be put on a maintainance drug.  The best thing to do is to be honest with your doctor!

Good Luck!
Crohn's since age 18, Dx in August 2006 at the age of 23.  Crohn's discovered after botched fistula surgery.  Doctor tells me all but the middle 4-5 ft of small intestine is affected with a stricture.  The good news is I have been in remission since Sept. 2006 with 100mg of Imuran daily.

I am going to tell him the truth. That I stopped taking the Pentasa after the Rx ran out in February b/c it wasn't making me feel any better. Then after a couple weeks of not taking the meds, my belly didn't hurt any more. I felt almost regular! Then about 2 months ago, it all started again. Dang it!!

But as Celey said, the meds may not help right away but they may slow down the CD. And I need to do something for myself b/c the alien in my belly is not welcome anymore!

The noises that come from me are other-worldly! I really struggle with embarresment, infact it's the worst thing about this disease for me at the moment. I've been flare free for a few years so i'm guessing it's due to scare tissue.

Suggestions made to me were-eat natural yoghurt, cut down on sugar, carbs and processed foods. This has helped my noises but they're still there :(

Smoking can trigger a Crohn's flare and make a current flare worse.  I used to smoke and know this from first hand experience.  If you have Crohn's, you absolutely cannot smoke.

My doctor said that the gurgling is the bowel shifting which is what happens when you're flaring...

Oh, and i'm definetly flaring.

I wonder why smoking isn't good for CD. I mean, I know why it isn't good in general, but what is it about Crohn's that makes smoking worse?
