i woke up with that familiar pain of a urinary tract infection i had when i was 20 that sent me to the hospital in the middle of the night. WELL, i wake up today and guess what? and to top it off, i leave in 3 hours to go camping in maine for 5 days!

please, shoot me. i am going to call my pcp and see if he can call me in a script without doing any tests but I DOUBT IT.

so question, i read uti's are more common in people with suppressed immune systems, is this another problem caused by 6mp?

Oh you poor thing! I doubt they'll give you a script without doing tests (that wouldn't be very good medicine to practice) but the tests ARE easy to get done and instantaneous, maybe you could just "pop in" on your way out of town to at least get a test, then some pyridine and antibiotic if necessary!?

you are correct my dear! i told them i didn't have insurance so they are letting me come in for just the lab. still going to cost a small fortune i am sure :( so, i am going to drop my pee off and head to maine and hopefully what i will do is pick up my script up there :/ unfortunately i still need to pack and finish cleaning and i feel like total garbage.

arghhhh. i am going to try and enjoy my weekend, you do the same :)

I get UTI's all the time. When I think I have one, I do the AZO Test Strip at home and if it turns purple, I call my NP and tell him I know I have a UTI based off the AZO Test and he calls in an Rx for me. I've had them so many times, it's just easier for everyone if I do that test at home and they call in the Rx rather than me driving to their office.

I'm sure people with compromised immune systems are more apt to get UTI's. And then as a Female Crohnie, it is MUCH, MUCH, MUCH MORE likely to get UTI's because of the D and the closeness of our bum to our urinary tract.
Diagnosed in October, 2004 at age 33.
36/F/SC
Currently taking Colazal, Nexium, Ferrous Sulfate, One-A-Day multivitamin, Omega-3 Fish Oil, Vitamin D, Vitamin A
Secondary conditions: mouth ulcers, joint pain, extreme fatigue

Hope you feel better soon and enjoy the trip! I had a UTI last week so I know how it goes. One doc told me that Cipro works best for UTI's, so that is what I usually ask for.

Probably a good idea to take probiotics or at least eat yogurt while/after taking the antibiotics.

i was told i had quite a bit of blood in my urine and an increase of white blood cells but no other sign of infection. ??? doesn't increased white blood cells = sign of infection? so yeah, they put me on bactrim for 3 days. by sunday i had an appetite again. so my vacation wasn't a complete loss :) i felt pretty good other than the lack of appetite from friday on.

I get this ALL THE TIME.  I think it's an infection related to the Crohn's itself.  I just drink lots of water.

The CVS minute clinics treat UTI's in adults and they are very quick and less expensive than most doctors.

I've only had a urinary tract infection once... and I think it was caused by me soaking in the tub for long amounts of time (it helped with my Crohn's pain) and not using the bathroom before and after to flush out bacteria... Think it made my Crohn's pain even worse, too... I went to the hospital... and I still had tons of pain even after a shot of Deladda and then they gave me Percocet when they were able to, too... and still, I was in loads of pain. I was pretty much incapacitated by the pain... :(... A nurse had to actually help me get up out of bed so that I could go to the bathroom. It was awful...

I only take showers, now.... I'm too afraid to take baths... haven't had a urinary tract infection since (I certainly hope I never have another one... especially not like that)
I think I am being picked on by life, sometimes. But's that okay. Life and I are good buddies... I know life doesn't mean no harm. It just is the way it is. I can accept that.
