For the past couple of days, my tummy pain has been getting really bad again... and it's been pretty constant... I've been taking my pain medicine every four hours... :(.... *Don't like doing that... I'm going to end up building a tolerance... that'll suck...* I was only taking it a couple of times a day... usually at night and in the morning... I was usually fairly okay... or at a level of tolerable pain for the rest of the day...

I was thinking maybe it was the junk food I've been eating... :(... I mean... I haven't been completely pigging out on it... and it's not like it's the only thing I'm eating (I have bought a lot of healthy snack food... veggies, for instance, and I have been eating those) or that it's things I know will hurt me... It's just... sweet, empty-calorie, no health-benefit whatsoever food...

I'll tell you what I got....

Some vanilla cookies... (they're kind of like vanilla wafers... very generic, though... very cheap... I checked the ingredients like I do with everything... nothing in them that I know would hurt me or make me sick *like if they were made with corn meal... they're wheat-based..*)

And some of those Fruit Slices candy (chewy, gummy... but not hard)... which is basically just high fructose corn syrup, sugar... and flavoring...

I also had a few Starbursts... :( I think maybe those might have caused a problem... because they don't look like they'd be very easy to digest, but it didn't occur to me at the time when the prednisone was making me grab everything...

What do you think? :(... You think the sugary stuff could be why I'm having more pain? :(... Man... I really didn't mean to make myself feel worse.... I feel like such an idiot, now...

Also... My lower back pain, hip pain, knee pain, and ankle pain have been getting worse, too... I don't think the sugary stuff would cause that kind of pain to get worse... but I haven't done anything strenuous or anything that would aggravate such pains...

Maybe it was when I got the X-rays done a couple of days ago... :(... I know I did start getting very uncomfortable and pained while they were having me move around on that hard, cold table to get the X-rays done...

I dunno... I'm just so tired of this... I'm so tired of the pain... :(...

I'm really sorry you're feeling bad! I think that the sugary stuff could have an effect on you. I know even when its a good day for me, if I eat too much sugary stuff it will make me feel bad the rest of the day. Try to lay off the sweets. And if you are feeling up to it, I would recommend maybe eating a small amount of something healthy and not hard on your stomach. Sometimes filling up with something a little bit better for me makes me feel better. I've been drinking a large sweet tea all day today. Every now and then I take small sips of it, just to get a sweet flavor in my mouth to satisfy me. But right now even that has made my stomach upset.

about other pains, when one thing increases, sometimes we also being to focus on other things too. Try to do something relaxing and get your mind off it for a bit, just long enough to try and cheer yourself up. Feelings of being depressed or stressed will often make crohn's worse for me. I try to take a hot shower, read a book, or play with my cat.

I really hope you get to feeling better.

Yeah... :(... I am getting pretty depressed.... *And that's probably why I was indulging in the sugary stuff, too...* I was having a very good emotional day a few days ago... before the pain got really bad again... *A very close friend said something to me that made me feel really good about myself... it was something I really needed to hear....* Still makes me feel good when I think about it...

But... I guess.. not feeling well... just makes me feel so frustrated.... and I guess the prednisone isn't helping with the frustration and depression....

Yea, I know how depressing it can be. When I first got diagnosed I was real sick, had lots of pain, and a jerk boyfriend lol so depression was rampant. It's good to try to talk to people. It doesn't cure anything, but just venting (like my little note) sometimes help. It's really hard and seems completely unfair. When it was really bad for me, I just tried to find some hobby that kept my mind preoccupied so I wasn't fretting over it.

I know it won't make it go away or make it a lot better but it helps a bit.

The refined sugar in junk food turns into gas in your gut, which causes bloat/pain. With the veggies, make sure you cook them for a long time, till they are very soft. Otherwise they can irritate your bowels.

If the pain is so bad, can you try eating just soft foods/liquids? Soup or broths, yogurt, applesauce, bananas, milkshakes...stuff like that. Or even buy Carnation Instant Breakfast, Ensure Plus or Boost. To give the bowels a rest.

Hope you feel better soon.

:(.... I have some yogurt... and soup... and jello... And Ensure....

I've seriously been considering going on a liquid diet a couple of times.... Maybe that is what I should do... :(... How long do you think I should go on a liquid diet?

I’m sorry you’re not feeling well! I often find that sugar is one of the first things that makes me sick, especially if I’m already teetering on the edge of ickyness. Maybe a couple days of bland, less sugar food to see if it helps? I myself am currently trying to shake a mini-flare and am eating one bland meal a day- it’s great fun!
I hope you start to feel better soon.

If you've been thinking about it, I would suggest trying clear liquids. I did it for two days before I just had to have some real food, luckily, that two days really helped

If it could help... that would be great....

Okay... tomorrow, I'll start a liquid diet.... two days... then... I'll eat just soft foods for a couple of days... Hopefully, that'll help....

Sugar (junky foods) and even fast-foods and processed foods are known to exacerbate symptoms, I know for me, since I've given all that up I'm not bloated or gassy...and I always have formed stools.

I have given up on sugar junk foods forever and I don't even really care. I just want to get better, I would eat a bucket of worms everyday if that's what it took.

sorry to hear you're not doing so well. i know you're not a jordan rubin fan, so please please please forgive me for bringing up his name, but perhaps it is time to take some of the attributes of the maker's diet a bit more seriously and investigate them???? the diet eschews processed foods and sugars, basically junk food. eliminating those foods from my diet as best as i could has improved my health, as it has for others on this board, regardless if they follow the makers diet or any other diet. perhaps it is worth a shot, especially now that you suggested there could be a link to them and your ill health??? just a suggestion. (i dont want you to open a can of whoop ass on me for this).

i find it best for me when i am not feeling well, be it digestive or other, that fasting helps.

best of luck to you and a speedy recovery!!!

I am going to give up on the junk food.... :(... *It's very hard... I tried it once before, actually... Trying to eliminate as much sugar as possible from my diet... no candy... not even Skittles... but... one of my friends would pressure me into eating that kind of stuff, anyway.... since the sugary stuff doesn't immediately cause me to feel bad... she thinks I shouldn't have to give it up... because I've given up so much already (because it does immediately cause me to feel bad...)* I just want to feel good again....

I don't trust Mr. Rubin, Crazy... but I am open to changing my diet to try and make me feel better... *I think just staying off the junk food completely... no more even occasional Skittles... no more occasional rootbeer...* :(... I've been trying to do some things already... like increasing my fiber intake... and I've bought more vegetables....

I bought the junk food on a sort of whim... and probably 'cause of my depression, too... I should've known better.... :(... With not feeling well and everything... I should be trying to eat as healthy as possible... :(... Seems like I'm always delivering myself a literal kick in the tummy... :(

It was hard for me cuz as a kid I grew up eating a ton of candy...I'm lucky my teeth are as healthy as they are...what ever fruits you can handle, substitute candy cravings for fruit instead, then you'll get your sugar/sweet kick licked in a healthy way...for chocolate cravings, eat at least 80% cocoa content or higher, the higher the content the better for you as it has hardly any sugar in it...If I can do it, anyone can, my skin and energy are amazing since giving up sugar, processed and fast-foods/beverages...drink only 100% pure, no sugar added juices and lots of water, water helps flush the toxins out from all the junk you've eaten...and is great for the skin and hydration.

Sugar is my enemy, when I crave it, I think about the symptoms and I give into the thought of the pain and let it be. I keep vegies on hand, fruit and try to stay away from the bad. It heps me alot! Eventually you stop craving it too!!

Hmmm... Trying to think of all that I'll need to eliminate from my diet...

Some foods have sugar in them... but are really healthy... Like... yogurt, for instance.... and fruits as you mentioned...

And then there's Ensure... the nutrition drink... it has some sugar in it... but it has a lot of nutrients...

I have a lot of popsicles stocked up in my fridge...I know popsicles don't have any health benefit... and they do contain sugar... but.... sometimes, they help soothe my tummy and cool me down when I'm feeling really hot.... I think I'd be okay if I just limited myself on the popsicles.... if I didn't eat too many of 'em... *I probably eat too many of them now...*

Hmmm... It'd be nice if I could find a specific diet to follow... instead of just trying to come up with my own tailored diet... Ehhh.... *Thinks*

The sugar in fruits is a good and necessary sugar which you need to keep your glucose levels in check..it's refined/processed sugars, sugar substitutes, artificial sweetners that you have to wary of and alot of yogurts will contain them, anything that says "fat-free" usually contains some type of sugar substitue, plain is best and you can sweeten it yourself with honey/fruit.

Plain yogurt... Okay... :)...

Surely, a little refined/processed sugar isn't that bad... is it? *If I'm going to go on a liquid diet, I feel comfortable doing it as long as I can drink Ensure... because it has nutrients in it...*

A little and only on occassion, otherwise it's too easy to slip back into old habits...ensure is fine for liquid diets, but those should be done for a limited time and not too too often either...They're tough, I started one on Wednesday so that today (now Saturday almost) I'd hopefully be poop free for the day, it's my daughters graduation and it's gonna be an early start and a very long day into the night...I've still had a couple of poops each day considering I haven't had solid foods since Tuesday, last night after I went to bed I couldn't fall asleep and I started feeling weird so I had to get up and eat some plain yogurt which made me feel better.

Wish me luck...

I think it may be all of what you talk about. Wheat and sugar can both be culprits.

Celey raises a good point. The Boost 'Plus Calories' I have has 45 grams of carbs per bottle. I wonder of this is all in the form of sugar? Seems like alot if it is...

Hmm... Wikipedia isn't exactly the best place to turn to for important information... *lol*

This is part of the reason why I want to study nutrition.... I have so many questions....

Doesn't all food turn into sugar for the body? Glucose and whatnot?

In any case, I will be eliminating the junk food from my diet.... (With the exception of the occasional popsicle)... Since I'm already lactose intolerant... a lot of dairy foods are gone from my diet...

The whole fruit thing I already pretty much do... *I avoid citrus fruits because they can bother me...* Still looking for papaya juice, though....

I don't think eliminating wheat from my diet is an option, though (I haven't noticed any problems with digesting wheat... and I don't get mouth sores)... I do enjoy rice... and it doesn't bother my system...

But corn meal for me is a big no-no....

The probiotics I take daily aid with lactose intolerance...I had severe issues with this but not anymore since taking primadophilus reuteri daily.
