So I have to go for a CT Enterography on Wednesday because the doc thinks that I might have a stricture. I don't think I do but I guess we'll see on Wednesday. A little background...I was diagnosed by a different GI about 27 months ago via a Capsule Endoscopy. I would have a D bowel movement once or twice a week and throw up every day. I also get some pain to the right of my belly button. Anyway stuff happened I switched docs had a flare up and started Remicade and 6-mp in Feb 2007. Things have been good until about 3 weeks ago. One morning I just started throwing up and had D and pain this last about a day and a half so I chalked it up to a virus or something I ate. I am also the Crohnie who can eat anything. Since this episode I have been having increased pain that has also spread up and down from my original pain center as I call it and have been having 5 - 10 formed, decent size ( not small not huge) bms per day. So now I'm looking at the Enterography. Never had one before and Barium always makes me puke so I'm wondering how much of the yucky stuff you have to drink?

It all depends on what there looking at its anywhere from one to three, I have had two CT's the first one I drank one the second one I drank two, and my daughter had to have one and they told her she had to drink three. It was so much fun. lol I get to do another capsule endoscopy on the 29 because they think I might have a blockage. So I wish you well and I hope they find out whats going on with you I know how nerve racking it can be not knowing whats wrong.

Thanks Dawn. Is it the thick white barium or the one that they mix with lemonade? I can usually get down about 1 and a half bottles before I start throwing up.

I had a ct done at the cleveland clinic and it was a "grape" flavored thick white barium. I could only do two they wanted me to do three but I told them if they did the first and second would end up on the floor.

I just had a CT Enterography at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, in April. They use 3 bottles - BUT - it is the lighter, thinner, not as gaggy and much easier to pass barium derivative.

Im the same as FinalMacgyver, managed two but would have vomitted all up if I had to have anymore than that. Two was sufficient anyway. Good luck Jodi and let us know how you went.Take care, Jo

I drank thinner stuff...I made it through about 2 1/2 eight oz glasses. It wasn't that bad going down, but I felt very sick afterward...then again, I had Salmonella at the time, so it's hard to know what was making me sick! It's not as bad as the colonoscopy prep or the thick barium stuff. Good luck

I was told I'd have to prep for the CT enterograph so I did it after my colonoscopy. I had 3 big cups of a dilute liquid. They gave me 15 min to drink each, and then did the scan after the end of the 45 min. I found it much easier to drink than the thick barium for SBFT's. Only complaint was it was cold, so by the time I finished it all (being in a hospital gown didn't help either) I was shivering like crazy! But it was OK.

Good luck
