I am a 49 yr old woman. I have thinning hair which I believe is much worse since starting Pentasa. The Pentasa is working otherwise, and I do not want to discontinue it. I was just wondering if anyone has tried Rogaine for medication induced hair loss?

my hair fell out as well. I had no idea what it was from. Went to dermo dr. and they did a biposy and they said i had what is called telegon effluvium. Which is like your hair is in the resting stage and all fell out just on the top of my head and sides. Thinning so bad i looked like a troll doll or top of a qtip so fuzzy. Went threw about 6 months of it and then as soon as i started taking steriod it grew back a different color and curly when i have bone straight hair. Huge change for me. Not to mention i cut it spikey so the new hair could grow in with the old hair. I asked about using rogaine and the dr. told that once i stopped it would just fall out. It wasnt permanent and that my hair would eventually grow back.

I was on so much medication in the 6month period of time that i have no idea what it fell out from. I know stress, diet, and medication does do it which i experienced all of that. I am on pentasa, entocort, humira, just got off predisone. Take into consideration eveything else that you have been going threw i know they told me that your hair falls out not from what it going on with you now but could have been what happened to you months prior to it falling out.

Hi Trsora,
Can I ask how old you are? I am wondering if it is hormonal with me (I'm 49) or if it really is the Pentasa.

I'm not sure how much help I can really offer, however, I have lost my hair numerous times due to meds. Every time it comes back it comes back a bit different, curly to wavy to straight to mucho curly right now. As far as I know, Rogaine can help with hair growth but once you stop taking it, the hair will fall out. Personally, I wouldn't put out the money for it. My aunt has thinning hair and bought herself a nice wig- it didn't cost a whole lot and I know about the stigma surrounding wigs, but you really cannot tell she's even wearing it. I would think if it's between that and Rogaine, the wig is more worth the money.
