So I have gained weight from being on prenisone for the past 9 months, now that I have tapered down to 15 mg a day I am seeing some of the weight come off :). The down side is that it has thinned my skin so severely that I have huge painful stretch marks on my abdomen, thighs, and under my arms. Even with losing weight I seem to be getting more. Has anyone else had this skin issue due to prednisone, and if so which products did you use to counter or improve the effects.

.... I have stretch marks even though I haven't really significantly gained or lost weight... *Pretty average* It's only around my hip area, though...

And I really have no idea as to what to do about them... I don't really much care, actually. I figure they'll probably go away on their own... or well... Maybe they'll just stay there... but...

Yeah... just doesn't seem to matter to much to me... Sorry. Wish I could be of more help...

Err... Now, if you wanna talk acne. I'm using a body wash right now that's working pretty good... :)

I gained quite a bit of weight when I was on prednisone and as a result had gotten bright red stretch marks on my hips. I have lost all of the weight, but the stretch marks are there for good. I don't really care anymore as it is what it is.

Prednisone also thinned my skin and made it crazy sensitive (waxing became 100% more painful)! But, the longer I was off the 'roids, the better I got. Hope you feel better soon!

My main issue isn't their appearance, although at 19 I don't enjoy having giant stretch marks, my main issue is that they are super painful they are deep rips in the skin. I am trying mederma and palmers lotion but it doesn't seem to help :(

My skin thinned on pred also and I also got stretch marks around the hip area. I have always had bad skin though since a baby, dermititis, irritated itchy skin, no elasticity etc. Ive tried alot of products and think palmers is crap. I use Dermaveen all over after showering and find it keeps my skin 'normal'. It isnt a miracle worker though, as for the stretch marks there are alot of specific stretch mark creams but I dont beleive they work in making them disappear. With time the stretch marks will fade, shrink and become faint but I do recomend moisturising all over after showering with a cream like dermaveen or Hamilton and they are good for the face also.

Yup, pred can do that...it's a pretty nasty drug, but for as long as it helps with symptoms what choices do you really have...I'm actually glad it finally stopped working for me, now I never have to worry about being on it again.

i have huge divits under my arms, belly, thighs.  my doc said it was "steroid toxicity" from being on way too much steroid.  they lighten over the years, but my divits are there forever.  i've never gotten used to them since they are worse that hte avearage stretch marks.

Diagnosed in 1999, hospitalized once.  Not responsive to meds.  Currently on 12 Asacol, , 8 ampules of Gastrocrom, 6 grams Colestid, flagyl, remicade for my UC.  Also have migraines and take B-4, B-2, for the prevention of them.
Deciding whether or not to have surgery at this time.

I got stretch marks after gaining and losing weight off pred-you can't really notice them now though. Pred made my skin super thin and im very worried that if i eventually get pregnant (please god!) i'll get awful stretch marks-i actually wonder if my skin would be able to physically stretch that far! It doesn't look like it's got any give in it!!

Vitamin E oil rubbed on the stretch marks may make them fade and improve the health of the skin. Also, because Prednisone interferes with sulfur metabolism, it causes the middle layer of the skin to thin and weaken. To correct this, try taking MSM and/or eating foods high in sulfur (broccoli, cabbage, olives, eggs, meats, etc.), and also make sure that you are taking a Vitamin C supplement because the layer of skin affected by Prednisone doesn't heal real well without Vitamin C.

Take care,

Have baths with Jojoba oil. I dont know if I spelt it correctly but it is great and the dermatoliigist told me it is the only oil that penetrates into the skin.

hey shellz  :-)  i am 20 years old too. i was on pred for about 7-8 months and put on loadsa weight. they gave me stretch marks nearly everywhere. arms, breasts, hips, thighs, calfs. and i hate them! being a young woman its not nice to have giant red marks everywhere. i have never got used to them and just hope they fade really well although i dont think they will.  i have tried bio oil. have you heard of that? it has lots of things in to help with the elasticity of your skin and works really well for some people. i have tried it but not used it religiously which i should have!lol
also i have heard that if you buy vitamin E capsules and pop them u can use the liquid from them to rub on to your stretchmarks. thats supposed to be really good as vitamin E is excellent for your skin! hope that helps abit. :-)
