I get, I think... maybe an hour or two in... because it does seem like I slip away. But that's it... The rest of the time I'm in bed, unable to sleep because everything aches so much (mostly my back, hips, knees, and ankles.... but my shoulders and elbows bother me a bit, too)...

Not the first time I'm dealing with this problem... I've been having trouble sleeping off and on because of pain...

My tummy hasn't been bothering me too much lately (and good news, I am no longer constipated... not regular yet.... having diarrhea *but mostly in consistency, not frequency*)... So I haven't been taking pain medicine before bed too much... Only when my tummy is bothering me...

And when that happens... doesn't seem like it does much good. Still have the pain in my back and in my joints...

The heating pad can really help my back... but man... it's just too hot to use...
I think I am being picked on by life, sometimes. But's that okay. Life and I are good buddies... I know life doesn't mean no harm. It just is the way it is. I can accept that.

I'm sorry your hurting and not feeling well!! My joints are pretty bad too and my lower back has been killing me beyond belief
the past few weeks. Like you, I put the heating pad on it at night. One night I fell asleep with it on and woke sometime in
the middle of the night. I was worried I burned myself. lol But I was ok. I'm dropping down on the pred. now and as I'm
coming down I feel my joints hurting more again. :-(

Sorry Celey your joints are giving you so much grief. If its any comfort you are not alone. I am able to sleep a little more than you (I am blessed not to be on Pred like you) but I am still getting woken up everynight with my low back, hips, hands and feet killing me. I am seeing my Rheumy on Weds and am praying she will be able to help. I know I am going to request some MRI's be run as this joint pain is getting old. Have you tried taking something like the Tylenol Arthritis and a Benedryl. Maybe the Tylenol Arthritis will help a little with the joint pain and the Benedryl might help you to sleep. Tylenol PM is just Tylenol and Benedryl. Just a thought. Gentle hugs my little friend.

I am sorry you are having trouble sleeping. I have been having back pain (arthritis) and having trouble sleeping as well.

I know how you feel. I also think some pain meds and a good old sleeping pill are in order. Maybe your Doc can give you samles? I know when you have days of trestless sleep it can be hard on a Chronie!

Good Luck!

Haven't tried any of that... I don't get to go to the store very often (transportation issues). I do see my doctor on Wednesday... (Was going to get to see him on Tuesday, but had to reschedule...) Least it wasn't a last minute rescheduling.

Really don't know what to do until then, though. Can't keep going on like this... I'm so tired, but I can't sleep. :(

Celey ask him to give you something to help you sleep while you are on the Pred. It might at least help you get some rest. Good luck!!

Don't like the idea of being on more medicine... but, yeah... I need something. :(... *Man, this kind of thing really sucks...*

On a more positive note, I just realized that I'm a veteran member here...

Celey,

I was having problems sleeping just like you while being on pred.  Ask your doc for some sleeping pills. They really helped me.  Although I have had joint pain in the past I'm not haveing any right now.  I hope you can get some sleep soon.

if you don't want meds, SOME body product stores sometimes have smelly sleep products--like out here in canada we have a store called Fruits N Passion, its all body washes and soaps and all that, but they have a line of stuff called Somnea, and some of them you just spritz a spray in your room and it releases scents that trigger your brain to relax and sleep, or products you can rub on you to relax and help you sleep (probably bath bubbles or soaps too if you want to bath then bed), I find some of those really helpful without having to resort to sleeping pills as well since its more natural.

I'm in agreement with Lady G, anything before the drugs.

Here's a great source for natural products that many have found to be helpful.

http://www.aromasensations.com/

Recommend Muscle Mist for the pain, it was designed for someone with fibro so if it helps reduce the pain for that enough that they sleep better then my guess is it should work for the rest of us as well.

As for the aromatherapy as Lady G suggested their Ylang will help relax you so you can fall asleep faster and their Lavender will help you stay asleep longer. They have other products they recommend for insomnia as well, which isn't your problem but should bring you relief just the same.

My wife and I use all 3 of the above mentioned products and so now do several of our friends/family.

Best of all since you're ordering online they ship directly to you and you don't have to worry about transportation. : )

Hope you find the same relief I have from using them.

Thank you so much, Rob... But man...

That stuff looks so expensive... :(.... *Can't afford it right now... and I won't be able to afford it later on, either... My paycheck is going to be really small this month...*

I need to sleep before, then... Last night, I think I managed to sleep for two hours...

Two hours. :(... I can't keep going on like this. I'm so tired, my tummy pain is the only pain that's let up on me and even it's not left me alone completely, I'm stressed beyond all hope, I'm horribly anxious and worried about what's going to happen in the near future... (Roommate trouble... impending doom it feels like...) I don't know what to do...

And I'm too distraught... I won't be able to handle a fight or yelling or anything like that... I know I'll end up getting caught in it... I don't want that to happen...

The only people I feel safe and comfortable with at the housing are the RAs... they're really nice. I tried to talk to them... but I'm so afraid of making things worse, that I couldn't bring myself to discuss the problem... All I could tell them was that I was super stressed and that I haven't been able to sleep because of pain (the anxiety might be contributing, too... and it's probably all going in a circle. Being sleep-deprived isn't helping...)

So nice... one of them got me some stuff to help me relax. A relaxing sounds CD... and some stuff to make my hands feel real soft... So nice. I'm glad there are people like them.

I don't know what to do... I'm so tired. I want to sleep so badly... and I just want peace. I can't handle anymore stress right now. I really can't. I'm close to the breaking point...

Sounds like there are several contributing factors and perhaps a free remedy to some is to spend a little time learning EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique). www.emofree.com, www.tapping.com and www.tryitoneverything.com to name a few.

The aromasensations stuff isn't a cheap initial investment, but the jars of Ylang & Lavender, etc last up to two years so at $30/2 years it's inexpensive in the long run. Unfortunately that doesn't help with the upfront cost, sorry. : (

The only other free thing I have to offer is prayer and I just did that on your behalf. Will continue to send prayers and good energy your way, wherever you may be : )

Not to rub it in but it's just after 3AM here so I'm off to bed or I won't get my few hours of much needed beauty rest. Will check back later today.

Ahh Celey I am sorry to hear you have to deal with roomie problems too with everything else. I too offer up some prayers that you can find some peace and relief soon. Celey I use a body soap with Lavender in it. Its made by Suave and I use it in my evening showers to help me relax a little before bed. Only costs about a $1.50 at Walmart. Hugs to you my little friend.

Ambien works great for sleep. I've used a half pill 2 or 3 times a week for years. It relaxes me enough to fall asleep when I'm anxious and can't relax.

How about getting some T3's? They should help with the pain and the codeine should make you drowsy as well.
Dx'ed in 1999. No surgeries.

Current meds: 75 mg 6MP. 20mg prednisone.

ditto on the ambian--I only need a half, but even on pred I would sleep for a few hours in a row. life is hard enough--get whatever you need to sleep!
48 y/o woman.  Diagnosed 4/06 after colonscopy, SBFT, CT-scan all showed crohns. 3 months later, after pred and remicade, all tests showed no crohns. December '06 had adhesions cut through a laparoscopy. Now taking Glycolax, Ultra Fiber Plus, Florastor, and DHEA. Have become gluten-free diet per naturopath's tests.

Thanks, guys... Maybe I can get something at the store. I finally broke down and told the RA everything... She said that if I'm so stressed and anxious, I don't have to stay in the environment that's causing me so much anxiety. So, I'm spending the day and night with her... and I think, somehow, things will work out. The RA is so nice... I really am happy to be treated so kindly...

Maybe if I can get something, I can get to sleep tonight. I hope so... I have class tomorrow...

Celey, make sure you ask your Doc for samples, mine gave me a handful of Ambien when my insurance did not cover it.

Also, bath and body works has some relaxing lotions. I had one and it was nice. Click on aromatherapy or do a search for sleep if my link does not work. Sometimes they have sales on this stuff too.
