I take probiotics that require refrigeration. Does anyone know how to transport probiotics when traveling? I don't think I can even pack them on ice because I couldn't get the ice through security. Is it OK to switch to a probiotic that doesn't need refrigeration for 8 days and then go back to my usual probiotic, or is it a bad idea to switch back and forth like that?

I don't think it's a bad idea to switch back and forth, as long as you're getting probiotics in you that's what counts...you could phone the airline and find out if you could transport them with ice or icepacks, they might just allow it.

I have just started trying probiotics and I usually drink Verb Good Belly, which needs to be refrigerated and I love it, but I recently went to Greece and my doc recommended Flora Q, so I took it and it didn't work for me.  I am not sure why.  What kind of probiotic are you taking?

Could you just buy some at your destination? They usually sell small bottles.
26 Year old married female law student (last year!!). Diagnosed w/ CD 4 years ago, IBS for over 10 years before that, which was probably the CD. I am sort of lactose intollerant too but can handle anything cultured and do well w/ lactose pills and lactaid. For crohns I am currently on Pentasa 4 pills/4x day and hysociamine prn. I also have bad acid reflux and have been on PPI's since age 13. I have been through prilosec, prevacid, and nexium. Currently I am on Protonix in the morning and Zantac at night. I also take a birth control pill to allow some fun in my life.

Thanks for all the great recommendations. Heathen, I take the probiotics pb4 recommends - primodophilus rueteri or something like that. There's another form of this antibiotic called "pearls" which don't need refrigeration. I don't think they're as good, but I'll bring some of those with me. Fitzy - that's a great idea to just buy some at my destination. I'm going to Vegas, Sedona and Santa Fe. i'm sure I can find some there. I may also try to bring some in a bag with a little ice (less than three ounces). If it's ice (solid), then arguably the 3 oz of liquid max shouldn't apply.
