I had a colonoscopy last week, showed active CD.  The Dr. told me today that the biopsy showed it was inflamation.  Does anyone know if a biopsy can really show weather or not it is inflamation.  I'd prefer inflamation to adhesions, but he's putting me on PREDNISONE.  I am very very upset about that.  anyway just curious about the inflamation versus adhesions.  Didn't know they could tell that.  Thanks

The biopsies are usually pretty accurate. I think as much as you hate it, the Pred is a good idea at this time.
Been living with Crohn's Disease for 32 years.  Currently on Asacol, Prilosec 60 mg, Estrace, Prinivil, Diltiazem, Percoset prn for pain and Calcium.  Resections in 2002 and 2005.  Recently diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and doing tests to see if I have Inflammatory Arthritis or AS.

yes, biopsies show inflammation. they can't show adhesions. how much pred are you taking and how is it going?
49 y/o woman.  Diagnosed 4/06 after colonscopy, SBFT, CT-scan all showed crohns. 3 months later, after pred and remicade, all tests showed no crohns. December '06 had adhesions cut through a laparoscopy. Now taking Glycolax, Ultra Fiber Plus, Florastor, and DHEA. Have become gluten-free diet per naturopath's tests.

Thanks for the responses.  I'm actually glad its really inflamation.  I don't want another surgery.  Well I started the Pred. today, 40mg., for 2 weeks when I see the Dr. again.  Then he'll decide what to do.  He also scheduled me for a CT scan to make sure there are no abcesses, as I am in pain everywhere in my abdomen.  I do hate the pred, more than anything, but if it works, I guess it's worth it.

Thanks again.....Dory

Biopsies CAN detect inflammation even when not visible to the colonoscope (depends on how good the pathologist is whether he misses it or not - and if the gastro took the biopsy in the right spot) BUT there is NO TEST for adhesions except an exploratory surgery.

Good luck w/the pred. Much as I hated to I went thru two short dosing regiments in Jan 08 and I'm back in symptomatic remission. (I also re-started the Pentasa I'd quit taking as insurance. Thank God, I am one who DOES respond well to Pentasa!).
