Hi, hope all is well. Now to get to the point. My husband lost his job because the company shut down. We went on cobra for 5 months then recieved a letter stating that since the company filed bankrucpty that we could no longer carry the cobra. I have been trying to find insurance elsewhere but with my crohn's no on will take me, if they do it is not affordable. Texas has a health pool which is also beyond my reach. Is there any alternative? I have tried to talk my bosses about group health insurance but so far no luck. Thanks for your help. Crohn's for 5 years.

Wow you really have a big dilemma! I thought that if you continued with Cobra (maintained insurance coverage) that you wouldn't be subject to the pre-existing disease problems with future insurance coverage. Sounds like I may be off on this one. I know for your medications there are prescription assistance plans, but as far as medical care I don't have any answers for you. So sorry to hear you are having such a hard time. I will definetly keep you in prayers that something will come thru for you soon. (((BiG HuGS)))

Hey nanners - you were right but it only applies to group insurance. WRM - hopefully your husband will find a new job soon w/ group insurance! I don't understand what your husband's company filing bankruptcy has to do w/ Cobra. They aren't paying any of the portion, your were. I guess the insurance company means since the group no longer exists you can no longer be on the group plan. I would call your local insurance commission to find out if it is true that they can cancel your cobra. I am not sure.
26 Year old married female law student (last year!!). Diagnosed w/ CD 4 years ago, IBS for over 10 years before that, which was probably the CD. I am sort of lactose intollerant too but can handle anything cultured and do well w/ lactose pills and lactaid. For crohns I am currently on Pentasa 4 pills/4x day and hysociamine prn. I also have bad acid reflux and have been on PPI's since age 13. I have been through prilosec, prevacid, and nexium. Currently I am on Protonix in the morning and Zantac at night. I also take a birth control pill to allow some fun in my life.
