My name is Steve from Michigan,I'm new here. When I first was DX in 2002 I was put on Pentasa I continued taking it for a couple of years, but didn't feel any improvements in the way I was feeling. Now I'm taking Lialda and this doesn't seem to help either i've been taking Lialda for about a year. What should i try next?
We're so busy watching out for what's just ahead of us that we don't take time to enjoy where we are.

I think your doctor would be the best one to advise you on what to take next. There is such a wide range of drugs out there and only your doc knows how severe your disease is and where it most affects your guts. If you think that you need something stronger, how about taking something in addition to the Lialda. Or does your doc think you are a good candidate for any of the "biologics" - like remicade, humira, cimzia? No one here can really tell you what you *should* take, but if you feel like your current treatment is ineffective, then I would definitely make an appointment with your GI and talk about your options. Hope you feel better soon!

I think the next step type of medication that most GI's would try for you would be one of the immunesuppressants such as 6mp or Imuran. But many docs are taking a top down approach and are starting more on the biologics such as Remicade, Humira, or Cimzia. I would talk to your GI and let him know that the meds you are on are not working. No one deserves to suffer. Good luck!
Been living with Crohn's Disease for 32 years.  Currently on Asacol, Prilosec 60 mg, Estrace, Prinivil, Diltiazem, Percoset prn for pain and Calcium.  Resections in 2002 and 2005.  Recently diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and doing tests to see if I have Inflammatory Arthritis or AS.

welcome Steve. I think it is good to get real specific about symptoms and decide what you can live with and what needs help. sometimes you have to work pretty hard to find relief and be an advocate for your health. You will find folks on this forum who have gone down many different paths, and many of us have gotten better! keep checking in. yp
49 y/o woman.  Diagnosed 4/06 after colonscopy, SBFT, CT-scan all showed crohns. 3 months later, after pred and remicade, all tests showed no crohns. December '06 had adhesions cut through a laparoscopy. Now taking Glycolax, Ultra Fiber Plus, Florastor, and DHEA. Have become gluten-free diet per naturopath's tests.
