Has anyone came close to when your to take your shot and had a flair??? I'm not sure whats going on . I went to my GI and told him the HUMIRA was working great and he told me to cut down on my entocort but two days before I was to have my next shot I started with the D so bad I thought about going to the ER. But you know how it goes I felt so bad I stayed home. The next day I still felt ruff but no D, took my shot, and its been another day I feel a lot better but still kind of fatigued. Question does it sound like I might need a shot more than twice a month or could it have been something else ?????? confused Help

I'm on Humira shots fortnightly and the day before my injection always tends to be pretty rough. I worry that these little bouts of inflammation will build up scar tissue and plan to ask the doctor about it at my next visit.

When I was starting Humira, the nurse warned me that I might start to feel a bit ill a few days before I was due to inject. She said it happens with a lot of people, so it isn't necessarily something to be worried about. That said, I'd still tell my doctor - perhaps you'll be one of those lucky people whose dosages can be changed.

I started the humira in Feb and it took three months before I really saw a difference, But this was the first flair I have had as bad as this was. And no one told me anything like that. I'm going to keep a eye on how it goes and I'm not sure if my GI will give me more!!!! But it has really made a difference in my life so I don't want to stop it. Thank you for your help

I started Humira in late December, and it took a month to work for me. After that I was doing great, tapering my prednisone, and then once I got down to 5mg, I started another big flare. My GI bumped my pred back up, which didn't seem to help much, and I went for another consultation with a GI researcher/guru, who recommended increasing my Humira to weekly. That really seemed to help, and I am now doing great. Am almost back down to 5 mg pred. I even survived a nasty bout of stomach flu a couple of months ago, which I would never have imagined possible prior to weekly Humira.

The researcher's theory is that I am pred-dependent, and that I was tapering too quickly, and my body's adrenal response to that/withdrawal kicked up an inflammatory response. He feels though, that my steroid dependence is a separate issue from my Crohn's. The new plan is to slowly taper to 5mg, stay there indefinitely, get another colonoscopy to see how the Humira is working, and then we'll come up with a plan to get me off the steroids.

The only downside to weekly Humira is that my bleeping insurance company won't cover the increased dose, even upon appeal. Luckily while I am pursuing an independent medical review through the state board of insurance, Abbott's patient assistance program is helping to provide me with the additional Humira.

Hope this helps...

On Humira since 1/08 with promising results, but can't get below 5mg Prednisone
4/9/08 Humira dose increased to 40mg/weekly
Now alternating 7.5 mg/5 mg pred
