I should know this answer myself after years of CD, but I plead pregnancy brain. Can you have inflammation, even if it is microscopic, and only have IBS and not something else? I always thought inflammation meant the IBS Dx was wrong.

My husband has been labeled IBS, but I just don't buy it with inflammation showing from his biopsy. He's sick more than I was when I was in flares. I can't really judge it though b/c I get C not D, and really just suffer from strictures and obstructions. He doesn't want to see my GI who is amazing b/c he doesn't think he is sick enough to see an expert. His IBS Dx makes no sense and he doesn't improve even with diet changes or reduced stress. He cycles in and out of illness. His family always just said he had a weak stomach and that the fact that he was rail thin was just genetic.

I'll take any info/advice, especially something that will convince him to see my great GI.

Yes, there is such a thing as collagenous colitis (aka; microscopic colitis).

If you google it you'll find plenty of info I'm sure.

Wow, thanks PB4, those symptoms fit my hubby. Odd thing is the meds are all the same ones I take. It'd be funny if we both end up popping pentasas. I tend to drop those things so often, my cats have batted an entire stockpile under the bed, I couldn't imagine what it would look like under there if we were both taking it. I think your info might help me convince him to go to my GI. Thanks!

Ya, I'm not 100% sure but I think microscopic might be limited to the colon so the same meds used for UC and crohn's-colitis would be used for microscopic (collagenous colitis) as well because certain drugs are targeted to reach the colon.
