I just had dental surgery and was prescribed vicodan and 600 mg of Ibuprofen for pain as needed.  I don't seem to have a problem tolerating the ibuprofen, but is it bad for me to take it even though it doesn't seem to be making me feel bad. I've got a lot of pain and the vicodan doesn't seem to help while the ibuprofen seems to help more.

Though, I think the fact that I've been eating things that I don't  usually eat like pudding, yogurt and lots of pasta is not helping my digestive system.

Any advice would be great. I am seeing my GI on Tuesday, but hopefully I'll only be dealing wtih this dental pain for a few more days.

My GI let me take Ibuprofen a few months ago for muscle pain and inflammation.  Her feeling was that my GI symptons were under control and if Ibuprofen was going to help my other pain than I should take.  If it caused a flare up or a gi bleed we would deal with it but getting my pain under control was more important at the moment.  It helped and no GI problems.

I had back pain.  The doctor, knowing I have CD, recommended Tylenol for pain.  Tylenol does not have aspirin.

Diagnosed with CD in 1994;

Have being treated with Chinese herbal medicines for over 10 years.

Personally I would NOT take ibuprofen or motrin at all with Crohn's. It is a theory that Crohn's can be caused by excessive ibuprofen/motrin use. I took TONS of ibuprofen and motrin while in college to deal with a knee injury and oddly enough I came down with Crohns. I have not touched the stuff since I've been diagnosed nor will I ever.

Like Eruditepaul, I only take tylenol for pain. I would stay away from the ibuprofen/motrin, but that is just my opinion.
