I just drew my B12 shot and forgot to sterilize the top of the vial before I inserted the needle. Did I just ruin the vial? I figure the one I just drew out should be OK, but I may have pushed bacteria into the vial that will be breeding for the next two weeks, when it is time for my next dose. At least B12 is cheap if I have to buy a new bottle, since my insurance won't pay for a new one cause I shouldn't have used it up yet. Of course, my doctor may give me issues about having to call in a new Rx.

Does anyone know if I need to throw the vial out?

Thanks. I was going to call the pharmacist in the morning, but I was a little afraid of the shot. Thanks for the quick answer. My husband was waiting to give me the shot, but I was being a little chicken s*&t. I've been doing this for 2 years and never forgot before. Thats what I get for watching the Red Sox at the same time!

I have never done that. I take B12 shots too and my husband gives them to me. He may do it and I just don't know it. But my B12 comes in little bottles with caps on them. Should I be doing that? No one told me to do that. I guess it hasn't hurt me too much because I've been getting B12 shots for a year now with no problems (knock on wood).

When I got my B12 in small vials they were sealed and it didn't matter. But when they increased the dose, I started getting vials that held 10+ doses instead of individual ones. So once you break the seal, you have to sterilize it each time you use it. Or at least that is how I was taught. But, I survived the night, so I guess the dose was OK, I'll call my doctor or the pharmacist later today to check on what I should do with the rest of the vial.
