Out of curiosity, what kind of prep have you all been told to do regarding the pill cam test?  I was told no food after 12:00 noon the day before the test, and only clear liquids up until 6:00 pm and absolutely nothing after 6:00.  I followed the directions and I got a copy of my report and I was not "cleaned out".

Has anyone else been given this prep?  Or have they had you do the same prep you do for a colonoscopy?

I am embarrassed about this.  If I had known I still had "stuff" in there, I would have gotten some phosphosoda.  While the test did succeed in showing Crohn's in my small intestine, it never made it to the large.  The weird thing is I passed the camera that evening--you would think it would have made it, but I guess not.  Also, for a few days before the test, I had the big "D" a few times a day.

The report also said that everywhere there was not "food" there was evidence of Crohn's.  I figure either I have a fair amount of Crohn's or had a fair amount of "food."  Guess I will have to wait until I see the GI next month to find out.

Hey, nothing to be embarrassed about! You followed the directions they gave you and you had had diarrhea a few days before the test to boot. You did your part. Its your docs that screwed up, not you. The battery life of the PCE is only 8 hours give or take so they only get to see as long as the battery holds out.

Thanks so much, ChronieToo!  That is true.  I may mention that when I go in to see them.

If I have to ever have the test again, I am going to ask about better prep!  :-)

The first time I had the pill cam done I didn't have a "prep" other than clear liquids. But just last month I had another one and I had to drink 1/2 of the wonderful prep. It was not fun, as I'm sure you know. They still didn't see anything with the cam and I ended up having to do the full prep for a colonoscopy. At least they were able to see something with yours. And don't be embarassed- like ChronieToo said- you did what they told you to do!

I can't take the prep (that gallon of nasty stuff) the Drs want me to so I do my own thing. I change my diet to all clear liquids the day before, drink lots and lots of water and the evening before the procedure (colonoscopy/pill-cam) I drink 2-3oz of the nasty phosphosoda chased with water then I plan to have a good book in the bathroom for the rest of the evening.
I can drink water, I just can't drink that jug of nasty stuff. Changing my diet the day before also helps to clear everything out. I hate starving myself.
You followed the Dr's directions, you are NOT at fault for poor test results! Heck, my Dr told me I couldn't eat after 6pm the evening before but I could go out and have breakfast right after taking the pill-cam. Nurse told me I still couldn't eat until the afternoon. Grrr. Like I said, I just HATE starving myself!

Crohn's and UC are pretty darn crappy, but if you can't laugh at yourself, you'll cry.
I'd much rather laugh.
2001 Dx'd with UC.  No remission.  5/2008 surgery, removal of 6" of left side colon.  Dx changed to Crohn's.  Remission for 8-9wks after surgery, symptoms returning after resuming 6MP.

Thanks Shaddy and 78! It is so weird how you can hear different things from the same office!

That phosphosoda is NASTY!

I feel so much better hearing from everyone on here! Thanks again!

yeah, don't blame yourself. You did what was asked of you and that's all they can expect.

78- I couldn't do the gallon of stuff either until I had to do it twice @ Mayo last month. They put Crystal Light in it and it wasn't as bad as what I had before. It isn't something I liked but it wasn't as bad as I had drank before.

After several scopes of taking the prep and phosphosoda and throwing it back up, I still to this day can't even think about drinking that stuff without my mouth watering in that gross way. Any way the last 4 or 5 scopes I have had no complaints. about 3 days before I eat no meats, soft foods only, 2 days before the procedure I start with eating only noodles or rice and clear broths, 1 days before nothing but water, alot of water, I take about 5 stool stimulants in the early evening, then again 4 hours later, clean as a whistle. Then the nearest burger joint when the procedure is over. Anyone ever go into a procedure and your doc comes in feeding his face? Trust me it sucks

Whoever decided lime was a good flavor for prep needs to try having a scope every month. I don't like lime on its own to begin with, let alone combined with that awful texture and copious amounts. At least add some lemon or something, jeez!
