Some doctors prescribe antibiotics to try and heal the fistulae. I think that a few people have had success with antibiotics but most have not. Which of Remicade's side effects has you so horrified?

I have had antibiotics prescribed for abscesses. I have heard it being used for fistulas as well. Flagyll and Cipro were prescibed to me (didn't work.) THe Cipro did, however, make my Achilles tendons ache horribly when I took it and my ankles swelled with edema. I stopped it immediately. The doctors said that the Cipro couldn't possibly do that. Lo and behold, two weeks later, Cipro was blacklisted by the FDA for the possibility of it causing tendon ruptures- specifically in the Achilles tendons.

Read up on all side effects of all medications and weigh your options. I refuse to take Remicade. It has such a litany of side effects its ridiculous. I think I saw that Remicade is either blacklisted by the FDA now as well, or is about to be blacklisted.

As others posted, Flagyl and Cipro are both used for Fistulas.  But I was just told that Xifaxan can also be used.  I'm a little skeptical of that one.  I have a permanent R/V fistula that I've had for about 6 years or so, and I've been on Xifaxan for about 2 years. One of my GI's didn't realize that I had a fistula, since it predates when I started seeing him and I guess he didn't pay attention to my records.  But he was shocked that the Xifaxan hadn't healed it.  But you may want to look into it.  It is also an antibiotic, but used off label for CD.
