Hi,

I'm thinking about trying the SCD (just ordered the book - so I don't know the details yet) but I was wondering if anyone from Australia or New Zealand is on it - and if so where do you get the yogert or probiotics from?

thanks

I'm not on the diet but I am in Aus and may be able to help you brainstorm ways to source the food.

Are you in the city, outback or a regional area?

Jacenta, you can find information on the SCD in the new meds thread here, or by clicking on the "Resources" thread at the top of the forum.

It's nice to see some more Aussies here! Welcome to you both.

Thanks for your responses guys -I'm in NZ currently. The specific carbohydrate diet recommends a natural yogert and I make easi-yo currently and was wondering if something like that is ok, from the website below I see the one I make isn't ok because it contains bifidus.

i never could tolerate the yogurt...and i am getting near 8 years on scd, so if you cant find it or its too expensive..don't worry you can do great without it :)
SCD since 01, remission since 01, occasional Arby's breaks :)

Hi Downunda, I'm in NZ too. I was on the SCD for 5 months and made my own yoghurt. Apparently the Kambrook yoghurt maker is the only one you can use to make yoghurt because you need to 'cook' it for 24 hours and none of the other yoghurt makers do this. I found my maker on TradeMe for $10 and bought a spare for $8 so they are pretty cheap. I don't think they are made any longer so you wont find one in the shops.

Good luck with the diet, I found it was great for losing weight but didn't really make any difference to my Crohns worst luck.
Diagnosed with Crohns May 2005, been sick for years prior - D and arthritis including AS. Also have severely scarring of my Oesophegus, Bacterial Overgrowth of Bowell and severe migraines.

Currently taking: 6MP; Pentasa; Cipro; Zoplicane; Venlafaxin; Somac; Metropolol; Immigran; Glucosamine; Folic Acid; Calcium; Calciferol; B12 injections; Multi Vitamins; Loperamide and Coedine, phew!

Thats great info thanks GeeBee, its a shame the SCD didn't work for you. I'm not interested in losing weight but I have been willing to try the medications so far and now I think it is time to try this approach.
