Hmmm..... interesting! A GI that is going to start you on 6MP and in the interval of therapeutic level use Remicade? I've never actually heard of such a thing. I would have some serious issue with that logic! First, there are some new studies out there that suggest using 6MP and/or Imuran in conjunction with Remicade may not be as good of an idea as originally thought. More docs are going to a Methotrexate - Remicade combo if the use of two drugs is necessary. Further more, Biologics are great at getting patients off of steroids and onto ONE drug. I'm not a fan of the mixing..... unless you HAVE too, and some do. Also, Remicade is not a good drug to start and stop.... you tend to build up antibodies and then could be unable to use it later down the road.
When looking at medications, you have to think risk - benefit. The side effects can be scary, but for most the benefit out weights the risk.
I've had Crohn's for 9 years and do 2- 1/2 marathons a year! You can still do it! You should check out www.ccteamchallenge.org. This would be a great program for you and give you the opportunity to meet and train with other Crohn's patients. I participated in ING Miami and am about to do Rock-n-Roll San Antonio with the CCFA Georgia team. It has been one of the best experiences of my life!
My 2 cents! =o) Best of luck to you!
