So my GI says I'm one of the most complicated cases of CD he's ever seen. Probably because my CD never goes into remission and I'm hard to treat.

I told the GI that after my baby's born (I'm 19 weeks prego) I might want more surgery. I hate having constant crohn's pain.

At least the pregnancy has slowed down my bowels, but I'm still inflamed with a bit of scar tissue narrowing and I expect the diarrhea will come back several times a day again (I hope not though!!!).

So I'm adding pentasa to the prednisone I take. Pentasa will be 2-4 times a day, I think. I also have to take heart med (I have a mild heart problem).

Do you think it's okay to take digestive enzymes and probiotics when you take your meds?

What kind of enzymes are they?
Dx'ed in 1999. No surgeries.

Current meds: 75 mg 6MP. 10mg prednisone (trying to taper). Udo's Choice Probiotics (30 billion).

my doc told me that too, but only after i got things under control and off all my meds using the makers diet. he then said how he couldnt believe how bad i was, how i didnt really respond to anything, and how he threw not only the kitchen sink at me, but also the major appliances too.

these things should not interfere with your meds. when i started taking them i was also taking my meds. talk to your doc or pharmacist is you really are concerned about interactions. some GI docs who are more into the "alternative" route will tell their patients to take probiotics and digestive enzymes with their meds. but again, check with your doc to qualm your fears if you are apprehensive or unsure.

when i started the makers diet i also began taking probiotics, digestive enzymes (omegazine by garden of life), cod liver oil (carlson labs and garden of life are good brands), and a green drink (perfect food by garden of life, greens plus and vitamineral greens are good brands). i also now take a calcium supplement since 6 years on prednisone gave me osteoporosis. i'm in the market for a mulit vitamin and b-12 supplement that i like and meets my standards.

I'm taking Garden of Life brand probiotics and enzymes. They're both multi-blend and I have noticed significant improvements at least with the probiotics. I'm not so sure about the enzymes, cause I just started taking them.

Crazy Harry, how many times a day do you take the probiotics? Also, do you still have active crohn's or are you in remission?

I don't take probiotics via pill supplements. I get my probiotics via kefir and yogurt. I drink goat milk kefir and eat goat milk yogurt but know that cow kefir and yogurt are just as good probiotics wise. The probiotics in pill form never worked for me but the kefir and yogurt have helped me a LOT. If I were you I would get my probiotics via yogurt and kefir!

Just my opinion though!

i dont think any one is every truly in remission. the disease will always come and go in severity. right now i'm feeling pretty good, so i try to take advantage of it. however i try to be realistic and accept that there will be bad times ahead. when they come, i just hope i can get things back under control with diet and not have to use meds or even surgery. but if i have to, so be it. i believe a big reason why i am feeling good now is two fold: 1) surgery in 2005 removed virtually of the diseased portion of my bowels, and 2) shortly thereafter i radically changed my diet which i think is keeping the disease at bay or very mild to where i dont feel symptomatic and allowed me to get off my meds.

i'm taking 2 pills per day of my probiotic. both first thing in the morning on an empty stomach with a big glass of water. i then wait at least a half an hour before i eat anything. when i run out of primal defense ultra, i'm going back on vsl3, for no particular reason other than right now imho i think it is a better product from what i've learned about probiotics from a doctor who did a lot of research on them.

Liturbo, I was regularly eating goat yogurt with live cultures until I got pregnant, then I removed all dairy except goat cheese because I'm not sure how well I even tolerate dairy. So now I take liquid calcium and eat goat mozzarella. I'm afraid to try the goat yogurt again. Last time I had a lot of diarrhea.
