Hello!  I have been in remission for the last 3 months or so.  I am now in a mini-flare I would say.  Just not feeling right, change in bowel habits, low grade fever, and very tired.  My GI wanted me to add Entocourt (9mg/day) along with my pentasa.  He wants me to take it for 6 weeks and then let him know how I'm doing. My question is, and I've searched on the site for the answer but didn't see it, have you tapered this or just stopped cold turkey like he wants me to do?  I am only concerned because it's a type of steroid and obviously with pred you have to taper slowly.  Thanks in advance!!

When I was on Entocort I had a problem requiring me to get off all steroids of any type. My GI and PCP had me taper off the Entocort. I was on 9 mg per day. They had me reduce 3 mg every third day until I was off. Entocort is a type of topical steroid, supposedly only treating the intestinal mucosa. supposedly only a very small percentage of the steroid component is absorbed into the blood stream thereby reducing the overall steroid effect. That might be why your GI feels it is okay to just stop the med.

Thanks for the reply Ides!  I appreciate it.  I knew it was a different type of steroid than pred, but just wanted to be sure.  Also, another question for anyone.  I read all the info given to me and it doesn't say anything about whether or not to take it with food.  Anyone who is on it, do you take it with food?  I didn't this morning as I wasn't sure adn will probably call the pharmacist, but thought I would ask on here!  Thanks again for everyone's thoughts and support!

:-)

NeNe,
How long have you been on it? I am only going to be on it for 6 weeks. Maybe that's why...not sure.

I also take it w/ or without food. Doesn't seem to make a difference either way I take it. When I've tapered off of it before, I never completely just stopped. Maybe something you can ask you pharmacist about since they know a lot more about drugs/effects than the doctors prescribing them!
Pentasa- 1000mg/2x 1/08; Percocet
Ultram ER 200mg; Prilosec 40mg; Xanax-ANXIETY; Cymbalta 60mg
Entocort 9mg
Probiotic
Ferrous Sulfate 325mg/daily for anemia
Azathioprine 150mg
Currently on a Low-residue diet as of 11/26

I'm so tired, when will this get better?

Thank you all for the answers and suggestions.  I will talk to my pharmacist when I go next week to pick up other prescriptions.  I appreciate your help!

I've been taking the entocort for almost 2 years now. Every time I tried to stop before I'd end up with very bad D but now on the humira I haven't had the problems.
