I'm a 28 year old British lady who moved to Abu Dhabi about 4 months ago.
I have Crohn's disease and am currently taking 8 Pentasa tablets of 500mg per day.  I am unable to find Pentasa anywhere in Abu Dhabi and am desparate...
I have a box of Asocol and have been advised that it is OK to take this in the meantime, however I feel uncomfortable changing medication (also the dosages are different).  I am very happy on Pentasa.

Can anyone please advise me where I can get some?

Or help me out with my worries....The stress is beginning to cause me some discomfort...

Thanks

Why don't you have someone in England get it for you and send it by next day delivery? You will have it in 2 days and all it will cost is £7 prescription fee plus cost of postage.

I'm looking into that, my father-in-law is a GP so I'm sure he will be able to send some, but the post is rubbish here.  My husbands birthday presents took two months to arrive!

Thanks for the advice - I think I need a quicker fix!

You dont' need to rely on the UAE post though, you do it through DHL - there are three offices you can collect from in Abu Dhabi.

Get your father law to send it by DHL in the UK and you will have it in 24 hours without using UAE post.

You can also check with your embassy.
26 Year old married female law student (last year!!). Diagnosed w/ CD 4 years ago, IBS for over 10 years before that, which was probably the CD. I am sort of lactose intollerant too but can handle anything cultured and do well w/ lactose pills and lactaid. For crohns I am currently on Pentasa 4 pills/4x day and hysociamine prn. I also have bad acid reflux and have been on PPI's since age 13. I have been through prilosec, prevacid, and nexium. Currently I am on Protonix in the morning and Zantac at night. I also take a birth control pill to allow some fun in my life.

LondonRed - I am going back to the UK next weekend.  Can I just pay for a prescription without seeing a doctor??

You can contact the Embassy on:

British Embassy Abu Dhabi22 Khalid bin Al Waleed Street PO Box 248 Abu Dhabi Tel: (+971)(2) 610 1100

Explain your issue and they may be able to help. But given that you seem to have moved to Abu Dhabi permanently they may not be able to help on health issues and ask you to contact a hospital. The best solution is DHL in my opinion.

You will need a prescription for a private doctor or consultant to do so. Why would you do that anyway? What you can do is get your father in law to prescribe you and then get it yourself from the chemist. The thing is if you get a prescription you save £100's - don't forget you can get 3 months supply of Pentasa for just £7. The easiest option is this:

1. Ring your doctor and him to give you a repeat prescription for Pentasa.
2. Ask a member of your family or you yourself pick it up next week and get you meds.
3. Give the repeat part of the forum to any chemist and they will order it for you every 3 months and you get someone to pick it up and post it to you by DHL.

Thank you so much.

I didn't realise there were so many people out there! This is my first visit to the website and it's nice to know there are so many people there.

I was diagnosed in January this year after having a horrendous flare-up.  I have suffered for a few years prior to this though and thought it was just IBS.  I had a difficult time coming to terms with having a disease.  I still struggle as it can change your life over night.  One day you are fine and the next day you are in pain and cannot move from the bathroom.

My husband is so supportive but sometimes I just feel a bit disgusting.

I guess this is normal?

It is hard being away from family and friends too.  I chose this though so shouldn't complain...

It's nice to know someone is there.

Yesterday I was an IBS victim, today I have IBD - but I am the same person - always remember that and never feel bad about something God gave you that you can't control.
