I just heard our member & friend Julia Hill is having a very bad time of things right now. I don't feel comfortable sharing much, as I don't have her permission, but...

Julia's husband is fighting for life -- Julia's Lupus and her Crohns are both in huge flares.

Please do what you can within the tenants of your own personal spiritual belief.

Thanks,

Hi Everyone:

I just spoke with Julia on the phone and she gave me permission to tell whats happening. Her husband Steve is a truck driver of an 18 wheeler. On the night of the 7th of August, two boys in a car ran a stop light and plowed into Steve's rig. The boys were killed instantly, Steve was air lifted to the trauma center.

Steve has a broken neck, collapsed lung, pneumonia from the vent, and two brain bleeds. Steve has been in a coma since the 7th. Julia and her two kids, her daughter and son are taking turns at being by Steve's beside. Julia said that Steve has been moving his arms and legs. That they have been tube feeding him and he had a small bowel movement. Yesterday, Steve opened one eye, he did it on his own, and they couldn't get him to open the eye upon command. However, it's still a positive sign that he's opened one eye. Julia did say that he had a tough night though, he's got a gauge in his brain that tells how much pressure he has on the brain. They were having a hard time getting his pressures in the safe zone. The doctors won't give any predictions as to how Steve will do. It's just a matter of waiting and seeing what happens.

Julia is totally worn out. Her lupus and crohns is flaring up and she's not getting to much sleep. She increased the amount of prednisone she's taking and hoping that holds her from having a raging flare. She said that she appreciates all the thoughts, prayers, and energy. I'll be talking to Julia every other day and I'll give updates. So please keep Steve and Julia and the kids in your prayers. They really need them.

Take care and thanks again,
Barbara

Hi Everyone,

Thank you all for your hugs and prayers, they are very much appreciated.  My husband is still in a comma, but we are seeing signs of improvement.  It is now day 10, and the Doctors tell me it is a marathon not a sprint.  I find I am having problems with my  suppressed adrenal glands.   20 mg of pred doesn't seem to be cutting the mustard when I am under stress and upset this many days in a row.  I am up and down like a yoyo with good news and bad news daily.  If anyone has experience with this I would like your input.

Take Care,

Julia

Nanners,

Hello Julia,

What a difficult time. Many prayers for you, your husband and kids, and the families of the boys.
If you haven't already, please share your own problems with the Docs and nurses in the hospital. They can keep a watchful eye on you and maybe intervene if things go in a bad direction. We often put aside/ignore our own problems to care for others but this may let a problem get out of control. Lean on them and take advantage of the other assistance the social workers there can give you -- housing, emotional support, etc. He sounds like he is in good hands and you need to keep yourself as healthy as possible for when he comes home. I really do know its hard, but let others care for him and you, and take time away from the situation to give yourself some rest.

Please keep us updated.

(((JULIA & HUBBY)))

Will continue to keep you and your family in my prayers. I think FallCollors has a great idea, in letting the staff know of your illnesses so they can watch you too. I will pray for your husband daily. Please take care of you too.

p.s. No it isn't me that has problems with my adrenal gland. But Pred does cause me to become really hypertensive.

God Bless,
Gail*Nanners*

Julia - the prayers on this board have been really succesful lately. You have a great group here cheering you on! You can add my prayers to the others. And I agree with the others, please try as hard as possible to take care of yourself too. If you mention your problems to the staff they may be able to keep you more comfortable, like arranging to have a bed put in his room for you instead of a hard chair.

As far as the adrenal glands, I can't offer much advice there but you might want to start a new thread with that in the subject line and see if it catches anyones eye. (HUGS)
26 Year old married female law student (last year!!). Diagnosed w/ CD 4 years ago, IBS for over 10 years before that, which was probably the CD. I am sort of lactose intollerant too but can handle anything cultured and do well w/ lactose pills and lactaid. For crohns I am currently on Pentasa 4 pills/4x day and hysociamine prn. I also have bad acid reflux and have been on PPI's since age 13. I have been through prilosec, prevacid, and nexium. Currently I am on Protonix in the morning and Zantac at night. I also take a birth control pill to allow some fun in my life.

Hi Everyone,

I want to thank you all for your prayers and good thoughts. It is nice to know that I have such a wonderful support team that truly understands. My husband is opening his eyes, blinking and yawning. He still isn't doing anything by command. He now has a trec in his throat for breathing, and he is doing much better with it. He was breathing on his own yesterday with 30% oxygen from the machine. They might move him to the neuro acute care ward today. If they do I hope it is to the section where the ratio is 1 nurse/3 patients. As for me, I am taking 25 mg of pred for my crohn's and my adrenal glands. I will decrease by 5 mg every 10 days. I see both of my GI's in Sept., so they will take it from there if I am having problems. I am trying to get more rest, but it is tiring sitting by the hospital bed. I guess I am not used to that role, I'm usually the patient. I now see things from both points of view. Please take care of yourselves, and I will keep you updated.

Julia

((JULIA & HUBBY)) Glad to hear that he is breathing on his own, that is some improvement, right?!?. I will continue to keep you both in my prayers. Please be sure to continue to take care of you too. I am so sorry that you are having to live thru this h*ll right now, but know we are all here praying and thinking good thought about you both.

God Bless,
