Hi all, New to this Forum and new to Crohn's. DX'd with UC in 2000. Just got out of the Hospital yesterday after 5 weeks. Was on TPN and started on remicade infusions. I had a colonoscopy in February DR said everything was looking good. then in June wham! I have a flare get really sick. Dr does another colonoscopy he said it's the worst case of UC has seen. The whole left side is ulcerated two places almost perforated. A few days later he says the test show Crohn's. This is the sickest I have ever been. I'm still trying to get a grip on the diagnosis of Crohn's. How did this get so bad so quick?

Hi and welcome to the site. Sorry you have to go through this illness. I was not DX ed with crohns untill a few years ago but have had bad symptoms all my life. Some of us get hit hard all at one time and some seem to progress more slowly. Wish I had some answers for you but we are all diff.

Hello and welcome! My symptoms came on overnight and bad, but i ate so much garbage food that weekend before that i thought for sure i had some sort of food poisoning. After 5 weeks of doc visits and dehydration, i knew it was something serious though. I've been on prednisone and Asacol for 5 weeks now and my symptoms were minimized almost immediately. Sometimes i try a food item that pisses off my gut bad for a few days but it seems to simmer down as long as i keep away from it. I'm still tapering off the prednisone and doing ok, so i consider myself lucky. Hopefully, you feel better soon!

I also got sick out of nowhere ( I had been to a county fair and thought I had food poisoning ) One day I was fine and the next I was not. Unfortunately it can and does show up unexpectedly and severe. This site has been my life-saver and I'm sure you will get any answers you are looking for and all kinds of information and support as I have. Like many others have said this is the place where everyone knows exactly how you feel and that has helped me the most through this ongoing battle. For you I pray what I pray for all of us, that this disease just goes as quickly as it came so that we may live a "normal" life again. Dawn☼

I'm so sorry...I wonder the same thing so much sometimes. I wonder was it stress, diet, genetics, all of the above or any variation? One month I was fine and the next I was completely incapacitated. It sounds like you've had the same experience.
I hope you get better soon as of having a proper diagnosis! Let us know how you're doing please...again I'm sorry that you're having such a rough time. Things do get better.

Welcome to healingwell.
Yes, some take years to get sick and some get sick very quickly, it is just the individual nature of this disease. Hopefully remicade can help you slot.

Thank you all so much for the Welcome. It will be so nice to be able to talk and get advice from folks that are going through this. I've been reading the forum since I got home from the hospital and you all seem to be very supportive and caring of each other. I hope to be a part of that and hopfully help make a difference in someones life like you all do.

Thanks again
