hello all. made it through 1.2 hours of work today. i figure after you toss your cookies twice and you feel like garbage it's feasible to be excused from work for the day. i woke up fine, got to work, sipped some green tea per usual, ate an organic banana, took my pills and within a 1/2 hour i was throwing up. now, i haven't had bananas in awhile but WHAT?! since when do bananas make you sick?? so that was about 2 hours ago, i still feel icky overall but my belly keeps growling. to eat or not to eat, that is the question!

anyone ever feel like this? do i attempt food? i bought some gatorade on my way home but i've only sipped some water so far.

yes, that happens all the time to me. Crazy--this morning I had terrible cramping and nausea and all I could think about was food. Maybe you didn't eat enough for your pills. I often need to eat a good meal with my pills or my tummy begins to digest them like food and I start burping them up.

If you are done throwing up, hydrate and try something like toast, egg, tea with honey. If I'm hungry, I take advantage of it and eat.

I think sammies gave you some great advice. One you should take your meds with more food than just a banana, next time try some toast or something with a little more substance. My niece who has Diverticulitis cannot eat banana's at all or she gets really bad D. Go figure??? I don't think it was the banana that made you sick, but more than likely not taking more food with your meds. Try to eat something light and see how you do. If you continue to be unable to keep anything down, I would definetly call your doc. Good luck!

Try just plain white rice or plain toast or plain eggo waffles. I also like plain pasta. Get the hint, plain lol!

Do you have any type of nausea meds? If so, you might want to take that. If not, you could get some Dramamine and that might help some with the nausea and its over the counter. Good luck!

i don't cause it's not a common problem with me. i took a nap off and on, woke up with very acid taste in my mouth followed with more burping (very acidy). maybe i will try gas-x? i am just gonna stick with sipping water and hopefully i will be able to eat a little something later so i can take my 6mp and iron pills. maybe if i feel sick after i eat again i will have my boyfriend pick me up some dramimine on his way over. thanks nanners.

If you are burping and you feel pressure in your gut, you are not digesting something and your gut bacteria are having a field day. That slows peristalsis and the gas backs up the digestive tract and slows the emptying of the stomach (hence the acid). You should go to plain soup - vegetable or just chicken/beef broth for a couple of days along with eggs (if you have D) and boiled skinless chicken. This is not much consolation for your growling stomach, but it should help the nausea. Your burps should give you an idea of what disagreed with you if you are used to tracking such problems (a vague taste or overtone to the burp that reminds you of something that you ate). Avoid whatever it is (if you can figure out what it was) for a while before trying it again and then watch what happens. The problem may not rear its head again immediately, or it might be something else that was responsible for the problem in the first place.

keeper - the only thing different was a banana? i called my mom after i left work and she told me she can't eat bananas cause they bother her stomach and they sit like a rock. i used to eat bananas and apple sauce almost everyday for breakfast when i was sticking to my low residue diet 100%. it's been awhile since i had bananas but weird, no? ah boy. i guess i could play a guessing game all day with this one :/ thanks for the input, think i will offer my other bananas up at work. i'm not really in the mood for the rest of them now for some reason! ;)

Was the banana more on the green side? Or more on the ripe side? If it was a little more green/less ripe it could have been the starch? Once a banana starts to get those tiny little brown specks that lets you know that the starches are turning into sugars and the banana should be easier on the gut because those sugars are easier to digest than the starches. I'm sure this isn't the science lesson you wanted, but I thought I'd throw it out there for whatever it's worth.

I get nauseated and hungry (starving!) a lot. How about a high-calorie breakfast drink like carnation instant breakfast? Or boost? Or slimfast? That way you can fill your belly with less risk of puking. Hope you feel better soon!

thanks stef :) it was a pretty ripe banana. that's why i decided to eat it first, i didn't want fruit flies hanging out at my desk!! how fruit flies got into the office, i have no idea but they were on a mission last week when i had strawberries! little dirt bags...

i keep forgetting i can use lactose free milk for things like carnation instant breakfast. i am definitely going to pick some up cause they are packed with goodness and honestly, i forgot all about them. thanks :D hopefully i will digest them ok. it's always a guessing game!!

Hang in there girl! I hope you figure out quickly what sits well so you can get some nutrition in you. I know it's so frustrating.

I'll throw this one out there cause its my sure fire cure when I'm nauseous but hungry too. I eat a few saltines with a little smear of butter on them. Something about the combo of salt and fat helps calm my tummy down and its just enough to give my tummy acids enough to work on so that I'm not constantly burbing. And then if it does fail, it isn't the worse thing in the world if it comes back up, it pretty bland and doesn't really give you alot of trouble.
