I had a colonoscopy on Tues. 8/19, did prep on Mon. 8/18 (the yummy halflytely and Bisacodyl Tablets). That night I broke out in a rash on my stomach. Now, 3 days later it is still there, but also on my legs, arms, neck, and face is a bit swollen. It is not severe just itchy. Wondering if any of you have experienced this with the prep? Doc said it could be an allergic reaction to the bisacodyl, but he's never seen that. I've also been on Humira for three months, but doc doesn't think it is related. Any ideas?

Given your allergy history, that seems the most likely bet. If you do not have bleeding problems, you might consider taking a vitamin E supplement. That vitamin has shown the ability to inhibit the production of IgE (immune globulin E), which is associated with allergies. Taking it should help to reduce the potential for future allergies and may reduce the severity of current ones. Crohn's is associated with high levels of IgE in the blood, and so a number of allergy related symptoms can occur.

The longer I have had this wonderful disease and the more meds I have been on, the longer my list of allergies gets. So nothing surprises me anymore. I even found that I can take the generic form of Zyrtec from Walgreens but not from CVS. Must be one of the additives. So if it gets really bad, try some benedryl for the itching, and try keepers ideas. Next time you need to have a colonoscopy, go for a different prep just to be safe.

Thanks to the both of you. Yes, apparently I am allergic to more and more these days. I was fine pre-Crohn's, now a lot of things give me weird reactions. Oh well, par for the course I guess.
