Im 20 and have been constipated for 8 years (not straight) and Im finally going get a colonoscopy. Ive literally had no appetite and i believe my physical development has been affected by this.
I ate only chicken noodle soup yesterday, and today i took miralax and my stomach has basically nothing in it but miralax and gatorade. its 6 pm and im still not the least bit hungry. So 8 years of no appetite i can't do anything about, but hopefully they find something wrong so i can start living again. it might sound funny, but i dont care if it is crohns, i cant feel any worse than i do right now.    HOW CAN I NOT BE HUNGRY WITH NOTHING IN MY STOMACH??????????????

Hi Welcome to Healing Well hope you get the good help and support I get it's great to not be alone. Hope you do good with your scope. Sometimes it takes a little something to stimulate the appetite. How long have you had no appetite? If your having pain it effects what a person wants to do including eating. I lost alot of weight when I first got sick but put it back on while on prednisone. Keep in touch and let us know how things go. lol gail

I'm doing the prep today too, with the scope not being done until 3:00 tomorrow. This is my 5th prep in 19 months (one for surgery and the other 4 for the colonoscopy, so fun I just keep having them!). This is the first time that I have felt nauseous from it. I was feeling hungry when my hubby made pizza (is that cruel or what) but now I'm just trying to choke down a little jello so I won't get too dehydrated. From past experience I'll probably be hungry when I'm at work in the morning, and then I will be too miserably bloated after the scope to want to eat. So it's french toast for breakfast Saturday morning! Gotta love simple carbs, the one thing that goes down easy!
diagnosed w/Crohn's 11/06. 34f with 2 boys, a lovable dog, and a wonderful husband. 150 mg Imuran, bentyl, vicodin as needed, metoprolol for orthostatic hypotension and heart palpitations. Bowel resection 9/07. Doc says no active disease, but flare-ups anyway. 11 year old son with IBS-C, on Bentyl.

So sorry you are dealing with this, I will tell you if there is one thing that mig ht help stimulate the appetite is chewing spearment gum. My surgeon wanted me chewing gum as soon as I was out of the anestisia enough to chew. He said it will make the digestive tract start working again and he was right, although a little cruel since I wasn't allowed food for 3 days. Hope you get a dx and let us know the outcome.
Surgery Aug 3,2007...15 inches small and 3 inches of large intestine removed. On no meds and in my first flare since

Please comment if you know anything of my situation, it gets interesting.
My colonscopy was done on friday and i had some polyps removed and some samples taken, and the report said i had microscopic irritation.
My appetite has been non existent since i was 12. (8 years ago) so i think ive had crohns since then, but the tests come back some time this week. i was going to go back to college, but i cant make any plans until this starts to get cleared up. i cant even work, so i am going to see my doctor early to see if theres anything he can do. my grades in high school dropped dramatically from middle school, and college my grades are terrible. Little did i know ive had a disease that has made me feel like @#%@%. I was told it was growing pains by one doctor, lactose intolerance by another, depression by another, thyroid problems by another, you get the point.
This is how it started:
When i was 12, i started to get constipated and my lymphnodes were all swollen. I was very depressed, and i was put on depression pills for 2 years that basically did nothing. when i was 16 or 17, i was put on wellbutrin, which helped with my constipation. since then, nothing had changed until 8 months ago in january. (since then i thought i was lactose intolerant, so i wasnt eating any milk products.)
so in january i tried eating milk products again, and it went well for a couple weeks. Then I started to have green stool, and it was like that for several months. Next it was diarhea and undigested food. I am unsure whether it was an infection or possible inflamation from the milk products. It was like this until about August, until an allergy doctor put me on prednisone for a severe sinus infection that she thought i still had since january because of severe headaches in my left temple (which was uncovered in a cat scan i had for a concussion in january)  The 20mg/day prednisone i was taking started to make my food digest better, and there were days when i was actually hungry, and i had a lot of energy to play hockey(which i do and have done 3 hours/daily in winter for the last 16 years. Around August 10th,  I went to see a new family doctor, and he ordered a colonoscopy. I got that done on friday, but since about 2 weeks ago my crohns has been acting up so i havent worked since last wednesday. I havent had a bowel movement in two days and i am sitting on my couch in pain. Thats why im going to the doctors tomorow i cant take this any longer. (imagine swear words where necessary)
thanks for reading.
