Does anyone have any really good suggestions for what to do  with the terrible gas and bloating problems that a bunch of us apparently are tormented with? Mine is most unbearable in the late afternoon and right around dinner time. I do well in the mornings, but every day after lunch I am too miserable for words. It improves in the late evening, but there are several hours that are utter hell. I am unable to even function during that time period. I would appreciate any remedies that anyone might have discovered. Thanks in advance for any help.

Before my surgery my abdomen was distended all the time. I think it was from the damaged/diseased area of colon and its' inflamation.

After surgery I did great, but about a month later I developed some horrible, horrible gas. Very painful and caused me to run to the bathroom for every little (and big) squeak of air, because I couldn't trust that it would only BE gas. I began taking a probiotic (acidopholus)(sp?) and gas-X gelcaps. I have been taking the gelcaps for about 5-6 weeks. If I forget a cap, or try to stop taking them, the gas comes back with a vengeance.
I have mentioned (via phone) the gas problem to my GI and she didn't seem to feel it was worth pursuing, though at my next appointment with her (next week) I will definitely bring it up and let her know it is something we need to get under control to keep me comfortable.
I have the ability of single-minded determination and accurate project focu....Hey, look, a cat!

Crohn's and UC are pretty darn crappy, but if you can't laugh at yourself, you'll cry.
I'd much rather laugh.
2001 Dx'd with UC.  No remission.  5/2008 surgery, removal of 6" of left side colon.  Dx changed to Crohn's.  Remission for 8-9wks after surgery, symptoms returning after resuming 6MP.

It seems to me that the docs never take the gas and bloating thing too seriously. It's always been my biggest problem besides weight loss. Consider a course of flagyl in case its bacterial overgrowth. You could try probiotics as well. You can also alter your diet, try eliminating gluten and or dairy. Gas-x helps some. As long as they rule out obstruction the docs don't have much they can give for gas, unfortunately.
Dx'ed in 1999. No surgeries.

Current meds: 75 mg 6MP. 3mg prednisone (trying to taper). Udo's Choice Probiotics (30 billion).
