What do you take for an iron supplement, I have tried so many and they plug me up. Is there one that is not constipating?

Strange...iron has the opposite effect on me. I take a supplement called tandem plus, and it definitely does NOT cause constipation.

I believe I also took Ferrous Sulfate. I wish it would have plugged me up. That would have been a nice change. LOL

Ferrous Sulphate is very irritating. Sometimes I wonder if the doctors have ever talked to their patients about the effects of their prescriptions. It is also not as well absorbed as some other commonly available forms. Gluconate is fine, citrate works well (and is better tasting), the "mixed Krebs cycle acids" (fumarate, maleate and ???) is supposed to be well absorbed.

I take an Iron supplement from the Vitamin Shoppe. It has Iron 28 mg as "ferrous fumarate, Ferrochel amino acid chelate, gluconate, aspartate, ascorbate, citrate, histinate, ketoglutarate, malate, succinate). I have no idea what all that means. It also has Vitamin C 75 mg, Folic Acid 200 mcg, Vitamin B12 12 mcg, and Copper 1.5 mg. I've been taking iron for years and tolerate this one better than any other I've tried. (It also doesn't have as much iron in it, which is probably why I tolerate it so well).
50 y/o F. CD dx'd Aug 05. Initially on Pentasa, then Imuran 125 mg. Started Humira (very reluctantly) on 10/24/07. Ileocolectomy 4/08.

Ferrous sulfate is horrible for me-I take either gentle iron or vitron C-neither of which are constipating and neither contains sulfer.

Iron = instant constipation!!
Diagnosed early 2007 with rectal Crohn's.  Several peri-rectal abscesses and two fistulas with setons.  No other symptoms.  Allergic to Remicade and Humira.  Currently on 6MP.

ferrous sulfate (ie slow fe) constipates you. go to the local health store where you can buy non-constipating iron supplements. the one i use is from solgar. works fine for me.
