Has anyone ever had a Hydrogen Breath Test before? Well I have to have two of them this Tuesday and Wed., I'll be staying at a  Motel 6 in Iowa City so we don't have to drive back and forth, which makes it seem like a mini vacation. Well not so much, I just realized the prep. for this is annoying. The day before each one  (which will be Monday & after the test on Tuesday) I can only eat 3 slices of white bread, plain white rice, plain white potatoes, baked chicken, water and non flavored tea & I can only use salt to flavor. The thing is im staying at a motel which I dont think has a fridge or micro. So Tuesday after the test which ive been told is about 4-5hours long of just sitting and breathing into a bag every few mins., I will be pretty hungry and alot of restaraunts around the hospital& our motel are closed still due to the big floods. So im not sure where im gonna get a baked plain chicken breast and plain white rice, lol.

And then Sep. 16th I will be having my first Colonoscopy, yeaaa so exciting, not really lol. Luckily I get to do a 3 day prep. Three days before drink miralax 3 times a day, 2 before drink more miralax and day before drink miralax and a small bottle of magnesium citrate. Which I think is better than having to drink that HUGE jug of PURE SALT!lol And im thinking I might have to ask for those days off of work, considering i'll be going to the bathroom ALOT! Which is another anoyance because I already asked for 3 days off that week, ugh this disease and all of these tests is getting on my nerves!!! rolleyes

Could you get your allowed foods at the hospital cafeteria? I have had luck at any asian resturant when I want plain white rice. They would also have non flavored tea. Bread doesnt need a microwave or fridge so just bring your own. You could get a baked potato at Wendys. I'm not sure if grilled chicken is the same as baked for the test but you could get that at any fast food place just ask for "just chicken" when ordering a chick sandwich. I also have gotten "just chicken" at friendlys before. Good luck!!

I also have bad acid reflux and have been on PPI's since age 13. I have been through prilosec, prevacid, and nexium. Currently I am on Protonix in the morning and Zantac at night. I also take a birth control pill to allow some fun in my life.

Hey, that 3 day Miralax prep doesn't sound any too bad. Mebbe. Can you be more specific about this colonoscopy prep?

How much Miralax 3 x the first day? What can be eaten that day? Anything or just clear liquids?

How much Miralax how often the second day? What can be eaten that day? Anything or just clear liquids?

How much Miralax how often the third day? What can be eaten that day? Anything or just clear liquids?

How many hours before the scope do you drink the Magnesium Citrate?

How many hours before the scope do you have to go NPO?

What time of the day is your scope?

Hi, I got the food thing figured out. My mom works at a different hospital and she had her friend bake me some plain chicken breasts and im gonna make another tonight at home. Shes gonna just pack a cooler, also im gonna bring a couple of potatos:)

I'll type out the 3 day prep. as it says on the sheet....

Three days before- Take one scoop of Miralax(17grams) mixed in with 8 ounces water after breakfast, lunch and dinner. Continue a usual diet.

Two days before- Take two scoops (34 grams)Miralax mixed with 16 ounces water after breakfast, lunch and dinner. Continue a usual diet.

One day before- Only clear liquids. Take two scoops(34 grams) of Miralax wit 16ounces of water after breakfast, lunch and dinner.

In the early evening (Between 5 & 7 pm) take one entire bottle of Magnesium Citrate (over ice &cold) Drink 1-2 glasses of water withen the next hour.

My scope is at 11 am, so I drink the stuff the night before.

Oh and by the way im eating a piece of chicken just sprikled with some salt and its not so bad, I prefer this diet over the liquid diet. Atleast I get chicken & tatos:0) I want butter but i'll survive. Im already planning my first regular meal for after the 2nd test Wed. LOL!!!

Oh and I tried that big jug of stuff you usually have to drink for the colonoscopy, and it is just awful & I think wayy to much, it was a bit overwhelming for me. So I suggest the next time anyone has a scope, ask for the 3 day prep, although some docs. might have different ways of doing it. I just think it'll be easier than drinking that nasty stuff, even though the magnesium citrate tastes the same, its alot smaller of an amount!

Hmm.. that is an interesting prep.

I've had two different preps. Take a whole lotta pills or drink a lot of stuff mixed in Gatorade. The Gatorade was much better, the pills tasted real salty and made me sick to my stomach.

It seems like allowing you to eat while taking laxatives is counter productive. I would hate putting food in knowing it will just come right out. And I'd be afraid to leave the house all that time! At least with the traditional prep you only have to miss a half day of work or so.
