hemmi bleeding?

Okay...hopefully I am coherent enough to type this.  I am exhausted and cannot sleep.

As some of you may have read on an earlier post, I was in the ER Friday (my time) with a high fever and severe abdominal pain.  The pain has gotten slowly better today (Saturday, well now early sunday morning).  Anyways...I have had diarrhea for the last 2 weeks or so constantly.  When I was in the ER they gave me a short dose of pred hopefully to hold me over til I can see my GI this coming week.  Well, I had abdominal pain for most of the day, but nothing like it was, so I thought, gee I'm on the mend.  Until 2 o clock this morning.  I had the urge to pass gas and was on the toilet.  It wasn't coming and it was coming so I strained a bit...apparently too much and passed some blood.  (A very frightening thing for me as I have never done it before.)  It wasn't a ton, just kind of splattered in the water (sorry TMI) and had to wipe a few times.  So, I debated going back to the ER, even woke up my husband, but decided it was maybe a hemmi as I have been going sooo much and it was painful  to gowhen I went before.  Plus, all of my abdominal pain was gone.  Wierd.  And I thought I was actually getting tired, so maybe I would sleep.  Ha!  So, fast forward to 3 hours later.  The pain started builidng up again in my abdomen adn thought, here I go again, so I went again and there was some blood and some pain, about teh same about of blood before.  And no abdominal pain.

Any thoughts?  Should I go to the ER where they will probably do very little for me once again?  Or should I try a wait and see approach and see what happens over the next day?  I am a little concerned because I am a teacher and start teaching on Tuesday!  YIKES!

Could the bleeding be from taking ALL of my meds including my new pred dose on empty stomachs pretty much today and yesterday because I have been on clear liquids.  OKay, sorry to ramble, going to try and sleep again now!

Thanks for reading!

Having the abdominal pain disappear after going to the bathroom regardless of whether the result was stool or simply blood sounds like typical Crohn's flare problems. That's one symptom I have anyway when I am not well.
As for the blood loss itself, it depends on how much you're still losing and how you're feeling. If it's continual and a lot then I would suggest going in and seeing what can be done. I lost enough that I really couldn't function so...I would hate for that to happen to you as well.
I'm sorry I can't be more help and that you're having that pain..it really is not fun. But like I said, I really think it depends on the duration of the blood loss and the amount. There are a lot of us that have intermittent blood loss so seeing it now doesn't even phase us. Sometimes it's just a normal part of this disease unfortunately...

LMills thank you for the reply.

I am not losing as much anymore, just when I wipe.  Which I am obviously still bleeding but not as much.  I'm just trying to rest and only get up when I absolutely need to.  I am just going to watch it and hope it gets better.  I just wish I would stop going to the bathroom altogether for awhile!  My butt is sooo sore!  I am going about every three hours or so.  I have to call my GI on Tues. anyway to follow up my ER visit, so hopefully I won't freak out too much before then.  I know a lot of people have bleeding problems...it's just since it's the first time for me that it's worrisome!  At least the pain is gone...I hope that doesn't signal something more serious!!

Thanks!
Mel

You know you're going through a disease like this when you worry as soon as you start feeling better haha..I know I felt more paranoid when I started feeling normal than when I was feeling my lowest.
Good luck with your appointment!! I hope you guys figure out exactly what is going on so you can feel better soon.

wow i couldn't imagine being a teacher and being sick..i hope things calm down and the pain slows..Most of us have a bit of ripe blood even on good days...btw every 3 hours isn't too bad (only a few poops in a school day whoohoo :) but if your butt hurts its a pain to go anyway.

Hi Mel Sounds like your butt is irritated from going so much .I use a cream when I get sore it's a Diaper cream. If it continues call your Dr. or tell your Dr. when you do see him. Try not to worry too much unless it gets worse or continues. lol gail

Thanks for the replies.  As to the advice of the ER doc I have pretty much been on clear liquids since Friday.  I am starving...I ate a few noodles in my soup today instead of just the broth and had a few bites of mashed potatoes.  Trying to eat things that will be soft.

As an update...I had a BM at about 10 this morning and then not again until 7 or so tonight.  Haven't had too much food so it's just little pieces, but the blood is still only when I wipe.  but it takes me 3, 4, 5 wipes to clean up. When I went to just urinate a little while ago, I felt no urge to pass gas or anything and when I did a pat down, there was no blood.  YIPPEE!  I'm hoping it's all getting under control.

Gachrons...I will get the cream tomorrow hopefully and try it out.  It can't really hurt I'm sure...other than maybe some stinging with all of my irritated  skin.

I am also going to see if there is a GI on call tomorrow at my clinic.  I know that mine is out of town, so any other advice to get me through to Tuesday would be great.

Thanks again for the replies...hope you guys don't think I'm too annoying!  Just a scary thought when something new happens and of course it's a holiday.
